Defense wise they haven't really been all that much better than us. I'm not counting us out yet. We've got a decent record against them.
After 8 League games -
RM - 30 goals scored, 9 conceded
LFC - 13 goals scored, 12 conceded
RM Top Goalscorer - C.Ronaldo 15 goals
LFC Top Goalscorer - R.Sterling 3 goals
As to having a good record against them, we had Rafa as our manager back then who knew Madrid inside out, we had one of the best teams in Europe, now we have Rodgers who has the tactical nous of a League 1 coach and a squad full of never has beens and never will be's.
defeatist , dont people remember 1981 paris a certain alan kennedy scoring .
I think the game will be a lot closer than many think. Let's look at some facts:
1) they are the 2 most successful team in Europe.
2) Liverpool have reached 2 CL finals in the last 10 years vs Madrid's 1
3) Both teams narrowly missed out on winning their domestic league last season - Liverpool (2nd) by 2 points, and Madrid (3rd) by 3 points
4) both teams scored over 100 league goals last season
5) Madrid have Ronaldo vs Liverpool have home advantage
In our favour, Madrid will want an away goal meaning they will push forward leaving them open to a counter attack. Also in our favour is their style of play - they don't hoof balls into the box so they won't be exploiting our biggest weakness. In madrid's favour they have had an extra day to rest/prepare.
I honestly don't think this will be as easy for Madrid as some pessimists are saying. That said, don't expect to see me on here for a few days if things go pear shaped tonight!
