I am with virgin and I read something about the challenge from them. More generally I think football will burst I think it's unsustainable in time I believe it will revert back to match going fans there will still be TV rights of course but the trend will be larger stadia and match experience similar to America, We see with BT where household charges are being increased to pay for the football it's reached it's limit and I feel also sponsorship will start to level out. It's simple economics no one is making money from football other than players and agents that can't go on.

That was not what I said but I think there will be a swing back to match going support TV and sponsorship are levelling out it has to I don't believe the TV companies are making huge amounts hence the appeal global sponsors also have a limit. So what else is there ? Good old fashioned fans that's what they made this club what it is and will do so again

if it does go bang like the report suggests it could , and you think the match going fan will return , well if its not as popular no more in the future where are the fans coming from after the clubs policy are alienating the local supporters by pricing them out ?

I agree that the bubble can burst if there is not some cap in wages and transfers. I think transfer cap will be very complicated though while a UEFA wage cap could work. FFP is already working towards reducing expenditure to some extent, City and PSG or even Chelsea hardly spent compared to past years.

Where I don't agree with you is the reverting to match going fans. I think the growth will be in tv and commercial rights because the world market is unlimited compared to the stadium attendance market which is more local. Of course I don't mean that fans will stop going to games, but the growth potential is very limited while tv and internet pay per view watching will only continue to grow.

The FA makes more money than other leagues only because the EPL is the most popular, not only in the UK but the whole world and with tv and worldwide audience, comes more advertising.

I disagree vish while the world market is in theory unlimited I think it is limited people want to follow sports they can relate to and that means see. You will always get fans who will follow overseas games on TV but those are limited. The growth in the future is likely to be China India and South America while they may watch premiership football it's unlikely to be their main sport they will want a national sport of their own. The uk based fans and thiose of nearby countries Ireland and Scandinavia will always be the main source of income I feel.

My friend, it looks like you don't know what is happening in the world, what you have described is what has been and maybe is the case but things are changing. Ask yourself why our sponsors are Standard Chartered whose focus is mainly Asia and the developing world or why most teams are having their pre-seasons mainly outside Europe. US is also a growing audience of football by the way.

I cannot agree with this. Scandinavia has a population of roughly 21 million and Ireland of around 6 million . Lets say together they have a population of 30million.

China has a population of 1.4 billion, India 1.25 billion...

So if every person from Scandivia and Ireland were a fan, a paying fan, that would give you 30million customers. Now lets say they each spend 3 times as much as a Chinese or Indian fan (which isn't the case but anyway). That would give you the equivalent of 90 million paying fans.

That is the equivalent of just 3% of China's and India's population....not taking into account the continent of South America, the United States or the entire continent of Africa, or Malaysia or the Phillipines.

Lets not forget that this is wildly assuming that 100% of Scandinavia's and Ireland's population are premier league fans.

The global market dwarfs the "local" or even "European" market in size in terms of football revenue.

What you guys are saying is true but I don't see the English premiership dominating exponentially long term. Lots of Americans follow premiership football these days but also lots of English people follow American football go to the stores in Manchester or Liverpool. And you will see lakers whatever shirts alongside prem teams. There is also another thing paying money. When I go overseas I see lots of Liverpool and Man United shirts and other prem teams almost all counterfeit and why are they wearing them? Some may be genuine fans like you two but many I feel it's a fashion statement like wearing timberland and not a cent goes to the club or ever will it's just an illusion. What you are saying is long term premiership football will dominate all other sports in perpetuity I just don't see that I can see it being popular but it will have to take it's place among other sports and I am pretty convinced in the economic powerhouses of the world (where the money us) India China American South America they will want their own sports not something played thousands of miles away in a small wet country called England.
