He's damned if he gives an honest opinion and account of what's going on and damned if he tries to tell us all is well!
Whether it was the best place to say it or not, at least he recognises there's a problem. That's the first step to curing it.

If we keep losing games it won't be their call mighty it rarely is. And much of this game is psychology and those types of public statements project weakness and a manager grappling with issues, can't in anyway see how that is a good thing.

BR doesn't have the gravitas to be able to do anything other than say it pretty much as it is. If he went the other way, as someone alluded to above, he'd be damned for being delusional. It would also put a lot of pressure on the players. If/when he gets a couple of top trophies under his belt and consistent qualification for the CL then he'll be able to use press conferences for spinning things the way he wants. But at the moment his position is too weak.

We signed nine new prospects in the summer and some of them were overpriced, and few of them are ready for the first team. Yet because we're in so many competitions this season Rodgers has to play them, ready or not and that's why the process is broken. The sensible thing to have done was to spend the 117m on 3 proven PL ready players that suits our style of play, instead of the scattergun approach for all those overpriced prospects, cheapies and gambles, who don't give you much on the pitch. Imo Rodgers is right to put it on the record, and tell it as it is. If this ragbag of hopefuls drag him down this season and they very well might good and all as he is, at least he'll have laid the blame firmly where it belongs. He did after all call for quality over quantity both this season and last season, but they gave him a ragbag of prospects. I'm glad he had the balls to put that on the record.

Nine prospects? Lallana proven in the EPL as is Lovren. Balotelli is hardly a prospect and neither is Alberto. Is Lambert a prospect too? My word!

Perhaps he used the wrong word as they aren't prospects, but I would say they were gambles (although at the end of the day all signings are gambles I guess). I would suggest the defensive signings made sense, but anything further up the pitch than the full backs were players who didn't really fit our system except perhaps Marko. I don't know if that's what was given to Rodgers or Rodgers chose those players however.

Lallana played for a mid table club and had one good season at that level, at our level he's not only a prospect but an overpriced prospect at that. Lovern may come good but hasn't as yet. Ballotelli is more of a prospect than most as he can spontaneously combust at any moment. Lambert was as good as a freebie and played all his career at mid to lower level clubs. That reflects the summer window we just had and the squandering of 117m on gambles and mid table mediocrity.

Amazing that some people are blaming the new signings when its the older players who've struggled so far: Gerrard, Sakho, Mignolet, Henderson, Lucas...

I think he meant prospect to use it as a stick to beat FSG. There were some gambles as all transfers are.

My understanding is that BR has the final word on all signings. he also went on public record saying he was very happy with the business that was done.
The problems with the approach of fewer but proven players are: that they cost a lot more on initial outlay & wages, are not guranteed to suceed; leaves the squad thin and more likely to suffer injuries; low sell on value.
