I never realized Balotelli was considered a lazy striker (I know his goal celebration is smile ) If we could deal with Suarez or Sturridge and his supposed bad attitude then we could deal with Mario - a different animal granted, but I have no doubt we could deal with him all the same.

The fact that Mario is a lazy striker (I don't know) could be the biggest hurdle.

KotK, who would you prefer instead of Balotelli? Its obvious we have attempted to get Cavani and Falcao but it appears those wont happen. So who is the next option? Ballotelli seems a good shout to me. Rather him than Remy IMO.

It is for me, the difference with Suarez was that though he was capable of doing some outrageously stupid things on the pitch, he gave absolutely everything whilst playing and at times even won games through his determination as much as his ability. In the past, Balotelli typified the opposite of what I think we all came to love about Suarez. I hope he has changed.

The fact that he's Italian (and our record of signing Italian players) would be enough to initially put me off, factor in his personality and work ethic and I'm dead set against this. However, I'll be happy that we've signed a striker because we're in desperate need of one.

Is he worth the risk? I don't think he is. We must be getting desperate.

Of course we’re desperate, look at what we have up front with 5 competitions facing us, what for example if Sturridge get injured? if that happens we’re screwed as things stand, I’d prefer Falco or Cavani of course, but those two look increasingly unlikely, so I say take the gamble and sign him. Ok it’s a risky move for Rodgers as you say, but so would coming 6th or 7th. In football, as in life, it’s a case of nothing ventured nothing gained...take the risk, go for it...oh and do it with the stadium also!

My problem is the fact that Liverpool have been allowed to get into this desperate situation yet again. Somebody, whether it be FSG, Ayre or Rodgers really isn't doing things correctly.

Yeah I agree. I suspect it’s as much to do with a reluctance to pay the going market rate for the kind of quality Rodgers has been targeting. I suppose the weight of a committee system grinding to misshapen decisions may also be a factor, but whatever it is, it sure needs sorting, and soon.
Right now we desperately need to land a quality striker, it’d be great, even at this late hour, to sign top quality with flawless character, but hey, at this point I’ll take a risk on a flawed character, as long as he’s a proven goal scorer. After all thats what we had in Suarez and it didn’t do our CL qualifications any harm, despite the collateral damage.

When that snake Mino Raiola comes out and says the BR has the final say on transfers, it means BR has the final say. I suspect that the committee was against it but that BR wants him.

As far as not paying the going rate for top strikers, the rumours are Falcao wanted wages of 200k and Monaco wanted a 12 million loan fee. It would be idiotic to pay that much in wages and loan fees if Ballotelli is available for 17mil. Also i don't want us handing out wages of 200k to players before they prove themselves on the pitch for LIVERPOOL. I wouldn't give Mess I 200k wages until he proves himself for Livsrpool, on the pitch!

Honestly, I'm not sure mate but then I'm not paid to scout the world for talented footballers. The club employs professionals to do that and agents who indirectly sound them out and in just over a year the best they came up with is Balotelli.

Here's a small list of players I'd rather have than Balotelli, not necessarily all strikers but it's a list of goal scorers I've come up with in 2mins.

Rues, Cavani, Fermino, Higuain, Lukaku, Falcao, Lavezzi, Lacazette, Muriel, Volland, Griezmann, Vela.

On a slight side note, if we do get him, and its for £16m that is a very decent bit of business i think if he does perform.

i think based on the quality and goals record of balotelli's play then the reported deal of "£17.5m fee / £92k per week" is a great bit of bit of business.

its just all of the extra the bull sh!t that comes with him i'm concerned about.

He's a great player who i rate, he can play alongside another striker or lead the line up front on his own.

But at some point he's going to do something on the pitch thats going to annoy the fans imo, one moment of stupidity or laziness and people will start getting on his back if he isn't producing the goods up front. If he does produce goods i can see the kop taking a real shine to him like we did with suarez. He'd be the new pantomime villain.

it seems much different from our recent transfer policy of signing players who have the right mentality and fight to play for our club. be interesting to see how it all unfolds

I completely agree with the second paragraph but the bit in bold, I cannot agree with. Balotelli's attitude & work ethic go completely against the team and philosophy Rodgers has built so far, we've seen him sign players who work hard for the team and press the ball at all times, Balotelli often does none of those things. Balotelli is however still young and would retain a resale value, that sounds very typical of the FSG model to me.
