we lost suarez and bought two southampton players?

Agreed it’s a disaster no question about it. If we sign a decent replacement and also strengthen elsewhere, e.g. defense, wings and midfield with the money we get for him, I think that’s as much as we can salvage from the wreck. The problem is we’ll probably spend it on second raters, judging by our recent purchases as you imply.

We survived when Owen left, also Torres.

Suarez is at a higher level than those admittedly but I remember everyone feeling like the world was over when these guys left too.

If Sanchez isn't interested in joining us then we need to play hardball and not negotiate, I'd take Pedro and maybe Alex Song as makeweights in the deal but still think we should be looking minimum £50mil plus players.

LFC have stuck by Suarez through think and thin, I think his desire to move shows a distinct lack of loyalty despite him saying otherwise towards the end of last season. Utd sold Ronaldo and that didn't slow them down!

What people need to remember is that if Suarez has another controversial incident like this again he could well be banned from football forever. 80m for a player like that is a steal. He usually does something crazy about once a year.

According to my United friends it did. And did they not try to buy him back last year ?

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) insist that the player will not be allowed to leave the club for a penny less than the valuation set in his new contract that he agreed upon towards the end of last year and club insiders are adamant that they will not waiver.

The official (public) line is that Luis Suarez isn't for sale so Barcelona would therefore have to meet the full release clause which is believed to be around £80m.

If anything, Luis harmed his own prospect of moving to Barca with the bite. FSG will never accept this as an excuse to lower his price, nor do I think they will be intimidated in any way to do so. If the price of the release clause is not met, Luis will be with us for another season.
