Maybe it has also been a small bit of help for Barcelona to continously keep signing top players for top transfer fees too?


By the way: Here's the La Liga table from last season:




Barcelona conceded 33 goals, which is second to Atletico only. They scored 100 goals, which is 4 goals less than Real, and ended up with the best goal difference in La Liga.

Liverpool on the other hand scored 101 goals but conceded 50 goals.

In my opinion it's very important we start conceding less goals. Conceding 50 goals is just too much, whether BR chooses to focus mainly on the offensive side of our game or not.

and its not just cause we play more open , a good bit of it is just bad defending. I don't like mignolet and i don't like johnson, could also do with a talker in the middle. but again the back positions seem to be our second priority , if it was me lalanna/sharquri/lambert types would be the 2nd thing to do.

If we score 100 goals a season we always finish top 4. That is a given. And most years it would be enough to win the league. Irrespective of letting in 50 we still finished above 18 other teams out of 19.

No chance not in this day an age can you concede 50 goals and win the league. Next season we will see more normal results especially at home where we have blitzed teams early on, it will be a tactic not to concede early on at anfield.

we're on a buget, their is no doubt about it. it is going to take some seriously insightful purchasing combined with outstanding management to be competitive. there will be big expectations this year.

its also worth noting that neither of the current signings will attract any big names. lambert and can? not exactly turning heads, even if they do do the job. i think expecting the costas and cescs of this world is a write off at this point.

As we (as you just pointed out) finished 2:nd this year, maybe it would be a good target to get up 1 more step next season?

A few less goals conceded will take us there for sure.

To be dependant on scoring 100+ goals to win the league is basically suicidal.

If teams start to park their bus at Anfield we won't score 3+ goals per home game, which will be needed for us to reach 100 goals over the whole season.

Since our defence has been pants this season, I think it would be a much easier task to make that part of our game more competitive than to try and up our goal scoring tally even more.

To be fair the way we played we could have let in another 25 and scored another 50. Don't think the defence knows their job properly at times and although the attack is a well drilled unit the defence is not.

If we sacrifice 20 less goals scored for 20 less conceded it won't make much difference to the points tally IMO.

We conceded 2 or more in many games but scored 4 or more in 11 matches. Next season we will still score lots of goals and we will still concede lots of goals but I would rather see that than struggle to make top 4 altogether. Teams need to be afraid of our attack. We need to just improve gradually in defence. Look at the TV money we are bringing in as a result of the way we play. We are getting more neutral fans on board who want to see teams who do what we do. And they want us to win.

I would take another 5 seasons like the last one in a heartbeat. Eventually trophies sooner or later will follow.

I agree that winning 1-0 instead of 5-4 won't give us any more points.

But the problem is that we WILL find it harder to score during the upcoming season. Teams will have found us out and park their bus. Also it's quite naive to assume that SAS are going to continue scoring at the same rate as they did last season.

What I hope to see is us taking more points in games like:

Swansea - Liverpool 2 - 2
Liverpool - Southampton 0 - 1
Newcastle - Liverpool 2 - 2
Arsenal - Liverpool 2 - 0
Everton - Liverpool 3 - 3
Hull - Liverpool 3 - 1
Man City - Liverpool 2 - 1
Chelsea - Liverpool 2 - 1
Liverpool - Aston Villa 2 - 2
West Brom - Liverpool 1 - 1
Liverpool - Chelsea 0 - 2
Crystal Palace - Liverpool 3 - 3

From those games two stand out for me and those are Everton and Palace.

Scoring 3 goals without winning is truly awful. We need to stop that kind of results!

Conceding just 1 goal less in both those games would have given us two more 3 - 2 wins, 4 more points and the title!


Also from the games we won last year a few stand out where we shouldn't have conceded like we did:

Stoke - Liverpool 3 - 5
Liverpool - Swansea 4 - 3
Cardiff - Liverpool 3 - 6

Yea it was a crazy season really and exiting without winning anything.

I'd like us to bring in an experienced leader other than Poxy kolo to actually lead the defence in training. Cough cough carra. Cough cough shouldn't have retired so quick cough cough giggs and scholes..end of cough.

Seriously though the point about big names and hih profile players isn't that we should overpay but we shouldn't be naive and think that buying gamble players all the time will soon also waste money and most importantly TIME that we can't buy back. We need another top 4 finish again and we have to stay in the champions league and push on. At the moment I don't see us being linked with the sort of players thy would exite me as a sturridge or suarez if I'm honest.
