I'm sure BR will be buying defenders before the window is closed.

the thing i worry about is again BR's lack of giving a crap about the back , that is where the problems are with us. We need to be as strong as kompany, zabelta -ivanovic,terry ..we will never be tough enough until we ship about glen and get two mean machine fullbacks. moreno -seems to me a bit more of gamble, young and gifted but not hard as nails.
lambert looks like a good addition, lalanna would be too and Can i think is another punt on future. I would love it if we were going all out for mangela, filepe and coleman. if we spent 40-50 on getting them 3 we would be so much more of a force next year - instead we spending 40m(potentially) on attacking positions -and we are good at attacking anyways. Yeah, fair points there EMP. Defence is beginning to look like Rodgers one and only blind spot, as we predicted it might from the start. We do need attacking additions and wingers but surely defence is the glaring priority. Had we a more dependable defence last season, we’d almost certainly be champions now.

How do you replace organisation awareness desire and willingness to not concede goals. It's attitude and ability. For me the attitude is missing especially since carra went to sky. I'd like to see carra in as a defensive coach. Rafa was a defensive coach at Real Madrid for 13 years before becoming a full time manager so that shaped his future and his tactical approach.

I think Sakho will be more settled next year. Him and Skrtle could form a solid partnership which would go a good way to stop us leaking so many goals. Add Moreno giving us more strength at LB, then it's only Johnson that's seeming the weak link, and even then he'll have competition from Flanno and Wisdom.
So I think beyond bringing in Moreno or another LB, we don't necessarily need to spend more on defence unless someone leaves. Though if the funds are available i'd like an upgrade on Johnson

Our defensive problems are more related to defensive midfield rather than to the back line itself.

Our defensive problems are more related to defensive midfield rather than to the back line itself. Yea they can't defend set pieces. They panick under pressure and they forget to play the ball out and keep it when we've either just scored or conceded. Closing games out starts with good solid expireienced defenders.

Perhaps its more down to the fact that we seem to be more intelligent buyers. Is Diego Costa (at a rumoured 40mil) really that much better than a 12mil Sturridge? Is he worth the difference in price? He has never played in England and as we know these transfers can go either way. Look at Morientes, Soldado...prolific in La Liga, poor in the EPL. On the other hand, we have Torres who was prolific for us. But at 40 mil, i don't know whether he is really worth it. I figure that for 40 mil, we could buy Jay Rodriguez, Lambert, Bony, Remy and perhaps even Dzeko...thats 4 or 5 strikers, who I am sure would give us more options and contribute more than Costa would per season.
Chelsea like to splash their cash, but many of their players have not been worth their transfer fees, starting with Torres. Willian has been solid so far, but 30 million, nowhere near proving he is worth that much. Eriksen cost less than half of that and has been equal in terms of performance.
Chelsea seem to buy a lot of popular players, at high prices and try to exploit their marketing value and popularity. We seem to go for less known players and try and build up their reputations.
In reality, neither approach is perfect, and a balance is needed between the two, but I would say we are moving closer towards that balance. Also, with Brendan Rodgers, I think we have a manager who will prove with time, that he is better than Mourinho, he just needs a bit more experience, but he has a much better footballing philosophy and personality than Maureen does and before long Chelski will implode, mainly because of Mourinho and the big attitudes around the club.

Good point ninja but at the same time until Rodgers for me convinces some real big players to liverpool and I see how he handles champions league and the league I'll be reserving my opinion on wether Rodgers is as good as mourinho. Sorry mate. Men lie women lie. Numbers do t and wether you like Jose or not he's record is up there with anyone's and some fanatics will say he's on the way to being the best. ( not me ) football does need characters as well before u reel off all his no head moments.

Sky showed Costa's stats the other day and apart from last season they're pretty [oops]. He was also loaned out and transferred quite a bit so I would say is a gamble and would have been a gamble for us last season had we bought him.
