Are we missing Downing in midfield?

Henderson just doesn't have star quality.

Good player, but around Newcastle level I think.

He shouldn't be singled out, but he's had a few years now and people keep using the 'young and improving' line but you have to call time eventually. At best, he should be a DM.

Too many gambles with FSG's method and it won't pay off, unless Spurs stumble and we overtake Everton/Utd. Sooner Coutinho's back the better, one player injured shows how weak the squad is in quality.

I think we are missing a left footed attacking midfield/wing player and Downing was not bad in the second half of last season. He was more useful than Aspas even before that the latter got injured

Yeah you have a point there vish, I think he was better than most of what came after, and I think he was sacrifised to save on wages.

The thing with Henderson is he isn't particularly endowed with a stellar skill set by default, so he really has to work double time to make any kind of impact. when this doesn't happen (like yesterday) then he can be painful to watch. But like many have said he wasn't then only underperformer, almost every one didn't seen bothered.

yeah we don't have the vim of a team looking to push on which is a worry. sturridge was so lazy, we lacked leadership in defence - agger should have played. where was lucas? is he injured? cissokko looks a bit jimi to me. johnson was pretty good but even he played a bit well who cares.

Xabi Alonso could fill a huge gap in the middle of the park. Or even if Toure was tried in there. He likes to carry the ball forward and is a good passer and reader of the game. Henderson works his guts out but is certainly lacking in many departments.

Credit where it due, Henderson was fantastic against West Brom! Nice to see him bounce back after last weeks performance and after the bacon faced cretins book came out.

Downing had to go. Same with Carrol. With the inflated fees/wages we paid/were paying for them, they were huge monkeys on our back. Every time they didn't perform the pain got worse. There was just too much negativity associated with them.

Henderson however is a young lad with a good attitude. He deserves whatever opportunity he gets. I hope our perseverance with him pays off for both him and the club. We all now have extra motivation for that to happen.
