Was at wedding all weekend so didn't see the game until today. I saw on here that he had a really bad game and some comments were very critical. After watching the game I think he did well for his first game as a wing back. People keep forgetting his still very young and learning. He didn't go hiding and kept on attacking playing against MEN twice his size. Your absolutely right, Sterling is not a right midfielder never mind any sort of back. Good young talent and will be very good one day. Remember he's only 18, a lot of players don't break through until 21/22. Oh and give my congrats to the groom Cheers, just a pity his a Man U fan Oh well I retract that congrats then lol

I thought he was extremely poor against Palace. He may be trying and 'showing' - but I lost count of the times he lost the ball- even playing it meekly to the opposition and setting up a number of Palace attacks. If you watch all Palace's threatening moments, an there were far too many of them, you will notice that a few of them come from Sterling give-aways on the right. Having said that, he's young and I'm willing to give him more chances. I can't help feeling we would have been better off keeping Suso and loaning Raheem though... i have to agree about needing myself more then raheem especially with coutinho out. i would be ideal to play just behind the striker ( coutinho role)

The lad looks lost at the moment. Protracted poor form such as his would not be tolerated by a foreign player and he would be offloaded quick smart. I would have thought that he would shine as a "wing-half" on the right. Lots of space and time to look up. Receive the ball, skip down the line, get to the end and cross the ball. 1,2,3, 4. Or am i missing something?

very much so, you are missing the point that the lad is 18yrs old. yes 18yrs old. The desperation of many a fan to play him and other young players in recent years all because the ' if hes good enough hes old enough' mantra is half the problem. the simple fact is when anyone starts a career they are not given any responsibility until they are mature enough to take it on board. Raheem like many others is still learning the dressing room banter and how to behave, never mind put in top level performances.
we as fans should be nurturing him not lambasting him. The lad had a mixed game and certainly early on looked all those 18yrs which he is. Later he improved and did start to run at his defender gaining a few corners and basically pushing Palace back. His final ball though was poor.
All has happened to the lad in one year, some good some bad. He is finding his feet as a footballer but also as a man. Young IBE also has been kept around the squad to get used to the matchday scenario of preparation, travelling with the team, staying in hotels etc. I would hazard a guess to say 90% on here never lived in such a way at such a young age.
let them grow into players for LFC, now is not the time to crticise and write off our young stars. It takes approx 100 appearances to see whether a player is good enough. Sterling is about half way there

I agree that he cannot play in that position as he cannot defend, I suppose BR had no other option with Johnson and Kelly not fit and Hendo in midfield because Lucas and Allen were out. We had the same problem but on the left when Sakho was played as a full back, but that time, Enrique was available. I suppose BR was trying something.

What is it with Kelly anyway? At 23 he should be playing regular football. A bit too injury prone for me. If we can't rely upon him as a replacement for when Johnson is injured then why have him in the squad?
It's ridiculous that that our 2nd choice right back has spent more time in the treatment room than he has on the pitch.
How did he survive the cull during summer? Oh yeah, no one want's to buy a cripple do they. Unless his name is Andy Caroll that is.

Kelly has had some terrible luck with injury, let's hope he can get himself fit and stay fit.

Gerrard had a string of injuries around the same age, a bit younger, it happens.
