He had a great game last week but he doesn't look entirely comfortable on the ball and he has been bullied by physical forwards in the past.

Skrtel would be sold even below that, he is on high wages after extending his contract last year. Whether he should be dropped or not will depend on how Sakho is performing, starting in training. I cannot see Sakho sitting on the bench after we paid so much for him, he is our most expensive defender and also the most expensive BR signing.
we are not really sure if he is the MOST expensive defender we have bought. johnson was bought for 17m pounds and the valuation of sako is anywhere between 14m and 18m pounds. it all depends on what you believe ( the fee was undisclosed)

Most reports I have read say 18m.

the only way to get a place in the side is when your given your chance you have to take it thats exactly what skyrtel has done unless he (OOPS) up then he stays in simple as, hes got his chance now he needs to keep playing thay way its all about competition the back 4 have become to complacent in recent times not any more

It's not quite so simple when it comes to which foot a defender favors. Most strikers are right footed and going onto a right footed defender, it's easier for the defender. The natural instinct with left and right footed players is not the same. It does make a bit of a difference no matter how trivial it may sound.

Would it not be easier for a left footed defender as a right footed forward is naturally going to be attacking towards the defenders stronger side?

Thought this thread needed revisiting.

In my opinion Skrtel has now had 3 very good games back to back and seems to be really staking a claim for a regular first team place. He was immense in both games against united and despite the loss to the saints, he was one of our better performers on the day.

i just wanted to see how people on here feel about him? Does everyone still think he's useless?

I don't think he's useless, but he's very much a form player. He's a nail eating monster when he's on form, but he inevitably loses form and turns into a headless chicken with a penchant for the kamikaze. His best season was Kenny's full year, but even then he had some pretty shocking games. Remember the shocker he had that ended in a red card against Spurs? I don't know how many call for his head there were after that one.

I think it's great that he's fighting for his place, and if the competition has made him a better player, then great, but I wouldn't be that surprised (or even that terribly disappointed) if he left in January for a good price. Sakho and ilori will be enough, I think.

Drop him for who? According to Rogers we have no one available and he isn't playing with 4 CB's by choice.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.
