Yes Levy is a tough negotiator but dont forget, he has probably overpaid for Willian, he cant get rid of Adebayor now even though he wants to and he will be dealing with a massive wage bill now.

HI all,
I would like to some of the posters on here to explain certain things to me. I want you to know that this is in no way a personal attack on anyone, but I will be singling out a few posters who have been the most vocal in their opposition to FSG and their methodical approach to running the club and their transer policy.
I have a few questions I would like you all to answer and something I would like you to explain. Stanley Park, Fazakerley Red, Vish Lfc, EMP, gnp-uk, Sixtiesred and of course, MIck Eire when he returns.
1. You guys have been very vocal on this forum about "modern day football/footballers" right? 2. You all are in agreement that the modern footballer is generally nothing more than a mercenary, is that correct? 3. You have all complained that the millions and millions spent on wages, transfers etc has ruined the game of football? 4.Stanley Park, you have said on several occassions that you would not mind LFC being in the championship if it meant ticket prices dropped and the club was returned to the people of the city,or made more available to common folk, is that right? 5. You have all stated, and I agree with you, that agents have too much power. 6. You have all stated, and I agree with you, that players also have too much power. 7. You all thinkk Carroll was a massive waste of funds 8.You all think the same about Borini and Downing. 9.Most of you have claimed that FSG are ruining the club, some have even gone as far as stating it is "rotten to the core".
SO I ask you the following, and please explain.
If money has ruined football, if that money now means football is no longer the peoples game, if players are whining girlies who make millions for running around a field and are way way overpaid, then WHY, do you guys, ask for FSG to splash millions on transfers? Why have you been calling so actively for FSG to open up the purse and throw cash at players? Why, when the committee come up with a valuation for a transfer target and refuse to go above it or overpay, do you guys say they are stingy and penny pinching?
Surely, they are being financially sensible, not willing to overpay or throw millions at players who aren't worth it. If they did throw millions around and weren't so stringent with their money, surely they would just be adding to the problem which "has destroyed football, distanced it from the fans and led to normal fans being forced out the game".
Surely, spending tens of millions of pounds in players in an inflated market would just contribute to everything that is evil within the game at the moment. How can you on side call for the game to be brought back to a level where it is available to the people and at the same time ask for the owners to just pour millions and millions down the pockets of players, agents and clubs? It makes no sense to me.
If anything, the incentive based contracts they introduced are perhaps one of the best things that could have happened to LFC in my opinion. Them forming a transfer commitee is another fantastic step in my opinion, where no one person will be able to splash funds on a target, the majority of the commitee has to agree. Surely this increases our chances of success.
Now, in regards to the latest Mkhitaryan and Willian transfers. If the board decided not to raise their offer and that they did not see value in an upped offer, then surely, that should be good enough for us. It is not one person deciding anymore but a comittee where the majority obviously agreed the deal did not represent value for money.
I have faith in the commitee and am very very happy with the calibre and type of players we have been linked with.
So, coming to the end of my post, as far as I am aware, so far, this window, we are sitting at about a zero on net spend or a very small net spend if any, yet our team has improved. I don't see how anyone can argue that it hasn't. Aspas has already shown that he is better than DOwning, and long may it continue, Toure has strengthened our defence, Mignolet and Reina are on par in my books. So in a nutshell, we have spent almost nothing and have a better team than last season. To me, that spells brilliant management of the club and excellent running of the business. Spend little or nothing but improve at the same time.
Once again I ask you,
If money has ruined the game, if money has made mercenaries of the players and distanced the game from the common man, the local Joe, why are you castagating FSG for taking a stance against that kind of club management? Surely you should be applauding them for trying to run a more sensible club.
Marko, you are mixing statements here by putting a few posters together. I have not complained about modern football, mercenary players, millions on wages, agents' power, not even on Caroll purchase price. It is modern football that has enabled the viewing of live matches thousands of kms from where they are played, regarding wages, agents' power, mercenaries etc, this is a societal phenomenon and not limited to football only, it comes with the capitalist and market system, you cannot change it only in football and having one team doing it. Unless all clubs team up together instead of having only FSG and Wenger to do something about it, it will not change. When it comes to Caroll, I still don't think that his price was the problem, but only the consequence of selling Torres 5 mins before the transfer window slamed shut, it looks like FSG has at least understood this with the handling of the Suarez saga. What I have complained though is that they didn't want to pay 3-5m millions more than their valuation (nobody knows if their valuation is right or not and what it is based upon) on their top target. 3-5m more on their top target Mikhi or Willian might have had a different outcome and we are not going to go bankrupt by spending 3-5m more. It's not even the fans' targets, it's their own. Nobody here is asking them to bid for Ronaldo, Messi, Falcao, Cavanni not even Bale or Rooney, we all know we cannot afford these players. What I don't like is that we'll end up probably buying our 4th, 5th or 6th target if ever we do buy, how can that be correct and give the squad or the fans or the manager confidence that the club owners want to finish in the top 4? The message I would get is, let's do our best and if we don't get there, we would have at least tried instead of; we are going to do everything possible to get into top 4 and we expect the same thing from you the players, manager and fans. As a fan, I am no longer interested to put a penny in the club anymore, because I don't see intent but only trials, SP will probably even add that they just want to squeeze everything out of fans without putting anything in. I hope I have answered to you question.

Good reply Vish I always think you have a very astute handle on whats going on. And your financial knowledge is normally spot on. Most people view the club as they would like them to be. If we dont strengthen the team significantly then its clear to most of us what FSG's game is.

Thanks for the reply Vish. I see your points and they are valid ones but i am not convinced that adding money for Willian would have been the solution. From what i understand, and maybe i am mistaken, but it's what i grasped, we actually offered more money than Dortmund for Mkhitaryan but he chose them over us, perhaps CL was the deciding factor. As far as Willian is concerned, i dont think he was ever amongst our top targets, he suddenly became available, and to me it seems like we had a pop and if we got him on our terms, great, otherwise we pull out. I do believe Mkhitaryan was a big target for us and missing out on him is a blow, but i dont feel its the same with IWillian.
I am sure though that we have identified other targets already, firstly because i am sure we had someone lined up in case we didn't get Mickey, and Willian was not that back up option as he was not available at that time. I dont know whether these Yarmolenko rumours are true but if we are interested, this is a player i would expect FSG to even overpay for because he is already that good and will only get better. Konoplyanka is also good and would come cheaper, but him we could haggle over, as far as Yarmolenko is concerned, if our interest is genuine, the club and owners will want to get it done asap. This is a player who could command a huge fee if a bidding war starts.

I can only hope that you are right and that finally this season we will break into top 4 as the one fact that nobody can deny is that we have had the worst 4 seasons I can remember as a LFC fan having followed the team for 35 years. The bigger part of these 4 years has been under FSG.

The bigger part of these 4 years has been under FSG. Well I can remember a period almost if not as worse. Over 4 years between 1996 to 2000 we made 1 semi final, 1 fifth round, no champions league success despite finishing between 3rd and 7th, and minimal headway in the then Uefa Cup. Now we're playing attractive football, and we still won a league cup, while managing 2 semi finals, one in europe, while finishing 6th to 8th. Forget all you want, but we went from not being able to compete in europe and only doing so in the league. Star players back then shouldn't over-shadow a lack of success.

Yes we are doomed
Marko has made a statement Aspas has already proved he is better than Downing. Really how ? where ?
He has only played part of one game at Anfield how can anyone make sweeping judgements like that ? By being able to get an assist, more than Downing did in his first season.
