think there was a few he wouldn't of got tho, the RVP second one and Ross Barkley ones were belters...

I thought we played very well and I think we are looking more dangerous up front than last season. Their keeper played very well, but we helped with that also, people need to start taking their chances full stop. We would have been unlucky to draw 1-1 all, but the way we played in the last 15 mins we are just asking for trouble. It is a confidence thing as well that when we are 1-0 with 10 to go it is as if we we know the other team might score and we let them play. We get nervous.

We need another defender though

I think i may be missing something here but from what i saw some of the football we played today was brilliant if you would of asked most fans for a 1 0 win on the opening day of the season they would bite your hand of or arm lol when the other fella comes back into the fold and we get a 1 or 2 top signins i see no reason why we cant push for a top 4 place i mean thats 9 games unbeaten in the prem now if we carry on this form we will be right up there come on guys get behind the team .

Luis Garcia, He drinks sangria
He came from Barca, to bring us Joy
He's five foot seven, he's football heaven

How can you destroy a team 1-0. It could have very easily been 1-1, would you have made this thread then?

Don't get carried away, we beat a team who will be fighting against relegation this season without Pulis. We still have 37 games to go and there are teams playing a lot better than us.

The same underlying problems are still there and a number of teams would have exposed us today.

We won't easily get top 4 either, we will be extremely lucky to even finish 6th.

We still have 2 major problems, finishing our chances (usually against teams well organised at the back) and we are exposed defensively (on the counter and set pieces). There is another thread saying that our problem is Agger now, common, that's nonsence.

Our problem is not the defender but our overall defensive system, BR is an attacking coach unlike Benitez, Mourinho but quite close to Wenger and Pep. It will always be; can we score at least one more that the opponent? (as they will always have good chances of scoring (except the smaller teams)). For this system to work well we need to have clinical finishers. Barca with this system will struggle without Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro etc who are very skillful to put it in. If you watch Barca playing you'll see that that number of chances they miss is huge.

Absolutely spot on there vish, we’re crying out for a striker/poacher in the RVP mould. Als your point re Rodgers and defense is also well made, I’d like to see him bring in someone to deal with that area (say Carra) as it’s his achilles heel for sure.

These problems have crippled us for years.

I can't see us signing a clinical finisher, as BR seems to prefer Attacking players who can play across the pitch. We need a Van Nistelrooy type goal hanger, either that or a Drogba, someone who is good in the air and bullys people.

We won't sign any Defensive Midfielders as BR has to fit boy wonder Allen in to his plans and Gerrard's place is firmly cemented in the ground no matter how he plays or whether he suits the system. BR prefers holding midfielders who pass the ball side to side. Any fast and skillful players will walk through our midfield as they are too slow to react. Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs will all have a field day.

We won't sign any steel at the back as BR prefers lightweight passing defenders. So players like Benteke and Altidore will destroy us.

So it's a no win situation.

BR obviously wants to be a team that scores 1 more than the opposition, as we saw last season that tactic only works against weaker teams, we struggled massively against top 10 sides, wasn't it only 1 win last season against them.

I think BR is firmly set in his ways, which is a shame for someone so young. I think he's seen the Barcelona model and tried to emulate it and mould his team around it, rather than working out a tactic which is best for the team.

nice to win games like this especially against stoke who can be hard to breakdown when they're playing away from home. was expecting another 0-0 so a win is great and already an improvement on last seasons opening day with the 3-0 defeat WBA last year

Not sure, but didn't we play away to WBA last year?
