I dont know about most but i never wanted Pepe to leave. I also believe he did speak to Rafa but i believe he was ready to fight for his place. What is best for the club is for us to have 2 high quality keepers, saving on his wages over this season will not make a huge difference. We did not have 2 keepers who had to play this year because of a world cup, but two keepers who both WANTED to play. That would have been great for competition and would have kept them on their tows.
To sacrifice a player like Reina, in a season where a top 4 finish is an absolute necessity for the club is short sighted and unforgivable IMO.
Not only that, but to openly admit it was financially driven over a few million, when as i said, top 4 is a MUST at all costs is really really not acceptable.

I dont agree. I am no lover of FSG but they have acted correctly in my view. Once a player passes his sell by date you move them on and the feelings of the player dont come into it. This has always been the case and certainly was in the great Liverpool teams of old who were totally ruthless. Talk of loyalty is silly we are dealing with professional contractors there is no loyality on either side and nor should there be.

Fair enough if he was sold, but he was loaned out...do yoou not feel he would have been better backup than Jones? What is happening? I am attacking FSG and you are defending them? The moon must be aligned funny or something :p
Seriously though, had we sold him i would understand but loaning him makes no sense to me, we might save 3 mil, not enough to explain such a move in such an important season for the club, in my mind.

THats the kind of player we need and want at LFC.
Mr.Henry, FSG, you should be ashamed of yourselves for sending him on loan to save a few quid. Especially since you tried to make it look like he was instigating the move. F*ck Off if this is how you are gonna treat the players who love this club.
Pepe, wish you all the best, come back soon. Yeah and for doing it without even telling Reina about the decision first, what a shabby way to treat a great servant of this club. And while I’d expect him to deny it I’d bet Rodgers didn’t know about it either until it was a fiat accompli, and I think that was clear from his comments about how “it reared it’s head". They quite obviously have no respect nor appreciation for the values of this club, they’re just here for the dosh.

Liverpool signed Mignolet due to knowing that Barca where more than likely coming in for Reina. This was put in motion as a priority. Barca never arrived and we had to think of the future. The fact is Reina would leave if Barca ever came calling still could next summer.
We then had a situation, were we have two keepers needing to play due to the world cup. Looking to the future, Reina is surplus to requirements. Napoli obviously sounded out the situation and we sorted out a deal while Reina was still on his extended break.
Advantages to us is we save £2 - 3 million on wages, plus his value should still remain intact.
Reina has unintentionally painted a picture that he was forced out. I think he was not trying to make the management look bad but rather make himself look loyal and respectful to the fans. Truth is it is in his interests to move to Napoli. I do not believe for a moment that Rafa didn't speak to him in advance. Barcelona are the bad guys in this situation, and it is them that are really the ones trying to save money. Have said it before, he is being moved because of his high wages and it's a FSG decision/policy, I think they wanted to have a bid from Barca which never came because Valdes decided to stay. Financial reason is the first consideration for FSG then footballing reasons follow. I maintain that we could have used the money spent to bring Migholet better by buying our priorities, in my opinion, a goalkeeper was not a priority. It was clear that Barca would not come this season weeks ago, when Valdes said he was staying, they may be thought that Mignolet would not be available next season, just may be to give them the benefit of the doudt. Now I will not be surprised if Suarez goes, probably as soon as we get a 50m bid.

Do you think that Suarez will get sold for 50 mil even to Arsenal Vish? Or do you believe they will only sell him abroad? I dont know what to think anymore but i dont believe they will sell to Arsenal.

I'm not buying the "money first" "football second" nonsense so many on here are hoping to force on every fan. Can we talk about football, rather than the need to slander the owners based on false premises? I agree that most were questioning whether Reina could recapture his form to be a top keeper again. That most are now suggesting sentimental reasons for keeping him, it proves you're all choosing that over the "football reasons" most are also slandering FSG for. It is so hypocritical it is beyond belief.
I admit. I would like Mignolet and Reina competing for No. 1. I think if it was not a world cup year, and the club wasn't out of Europe too, I don't think this deal would have happened. That it is a loan deal suggests the club has either not received the bid they expected. It might also suggest they'd happily bring him back if they could renegotiate a lower deal (one more fitting as his position is not No. 1 anymore).
The letter, as rightly pointed out, was to show and demonstrate his closeness to the fans, and pay them homage given his long-standing time at the club. That doesn't mean to say if Barca had come calling, he wouldn't have pushed for the move. I think there is more to this than FSG, BR or PR have let on.

It’s the way they did it Stanley, total disrespect for anybody or anything other than saving a few quid. Prolific makes a good point imo, when he says we need competition between two good keepers as we do in all areas of the team. What if our one good keeper is injured this season? I don’t think Jones is ready for that if he ever will be. No this is a shabby decision made on for a miserable pittance in relative terms, and made far away from Anfield by people who know nothing about football and apparently care less, but all based on financial considerations. You know football is first and foremost a people business, and you treat your most precious asset like this at your peril.

##OFF TOPIC## - regarding Suarez
I'd have a chat with him to get to the bottom of it, as far as im aware he has only ever mentioned Madird as his preference. If he still wants to leave I would just get shut and move on. I could care less now about where he goes. If he left these shores the better cos he can't hurt us but, I now have no issue if he went to Arsenal. No one man is bigger than the team. We could be better off without him in the long run. So be it. Either stay an fight, or #### off.
If Jones is no good as a backup we need shut of him and find an old keeper content with a bit part. No team needs two top keepers unless one is injured. Teams with more than one good keeper is because they haven't made up their minds to who is first choice.

yeah I don't reina can complain too much.Once you tell a club you want to leave then they have to act accordingly. In pepe's case i think we have been disappointed in his performances for some time.
his move fell through, probably should have told him rafa wants him but ya know if you accept the bid it kinda makes the players mind up for him
