Ireland has never been regarded as a footballing nation and there national team is as strong as a Jamaican bobsleigh team or an African ice Hockey team, Ireland is more famed for Gaelic football or girly hockey Hurling than football am afraid, just that people find it hard to take the Irish football national team serious.

I agree to some extent, but population has little or nothing to do with it. The US and Russia are huge but win F*ck all. China's huge and wins F*ck all. Uraguay, England, and Spain aren't really that big, but they have won a lot more. Even Croatia (which is tiny) does better than Ireland.

Agree with the thread will be good to see sturrage get a run at that level otherwise bit of a non game. Looking forward to it now.
