If you take the prices of all of their last transfers, it seems like pennies to their value now. Michu (£2m) Benteke (£7m) Hangeland (£3m) Vidal (£10m) Schurrle (£6.5m) Ozil (£13m) Hernandez (£8m) Cavani (£14m). Lots of these are strikers, but merely people off the top of my head. All you need, is a talented coach with a formula for success, an ability to develop talent, and a great scouting department. You don't need lots of money to get to the top of the league. Just ask our neighbours about transfer money and see what response you get...

I understand the point you're making jj, but most if not all those players you list, were found by 'selling' clubs which have a very high turnover of players and for every gem they unearth they buy two or three who never make good, thats ok for clubs who are reasonably happy to hang on in the PL, but LFC shouldn't copy that strategy, as it won't nor is it designed to take your club to the top. Our purchases over the last couple of seasons highlight the fact that too few of this type of signings come good and those who do take too long, it's ok if we want to hang out around mid table, but foolish if we want to hit the top level. FSG chose that policy in the mistaken belief that 'moneyball' would transfer seamlessly from baseball to football, or else in an effort to avoid having to compete in the transfer market. Either way it's doomed to failure barring a miracle, and miracles seldom ever happen unfortunately.

I appreciate the opinion. But I feel that all those signings were justified by more than just chances. I think their stats showed how prolific they were. Both physical and mental strengths can be identified by scouts too. Most people that watched La Liga were excited to see Michu in the PL. Similarly Pablo Hernandez at Swansea, who impressed both on paper and for fans. Its about time we made reasoned mistakes and successes, rather than chances. I think thats proven sufficiently successful so far, not least improving signing upon signing. Coutinho and Sturridge both settled, Sturridge immediately, and Coutinho a handful of games in. There is no instant success from spending money. City had to wait a few seasons. Chelsea had to wait a season. Why can't we wait?

We can wait but we dont want to, we've waiting about 25 years now and by saying "why cant we wait one more" is nothing short of delusion, playing the waiting game obviously hasn't worked for us so lets try a new approach

I think we should just go through the motions, retain a mediocre manager, invest a moderate amount of money into the squad, buy average players and make minor improvements at anfield......and then pray to god that city, utd, arsenal, chelsea, spurs & everton call it a day and take up cricket. If that fails we could set up a twitter accounts in latin & esperanto to bring in funds from new sources.

I agree completely Carheex, 100%, great comment, lets stick to mediocracy its worked for 25 years how could it fail us now? Lets keep paying 10 - 20 million to buy players off bottom half clubs, especially make sure we buy players who play well against us, lets get in McCarthy surely Reading would accept 15 million? Although we are LFC lets just give them 20.

I know we don't want to. Its not about choosing to wait forever. Its about waiting to see if the changes that have been made this season pay dividends for the next. If we do change, we'll be doing the same thing we have done to Roy and Kenny which got us most of the way into this predicament as it is. So to use your own words, "Why not try a new approach" and give the guy that made the changes a chance to prove they were worth the short-term sacrifice. Its not as if anybody in management is "stellar" and open to join us right now is it? The only guy is Rafa, and all the work we have done to buy a team to suit Rodgers tactic may have been wasted if we choose to twist yet again.

All the work we have done "to buy a team to suit Rodgers tactic" has already been wasted mate. Assaidi, Borini and Allen are invisible, Allen and Borini are both useless, and Assaidi well the poor kid cant buy a game, in my opinion the only good signing we've brought in is Coutinho, the football is pretty similiar to Kenny who had us tearing teams apart but we lacked goals, the defending is arguably worse, Skrtel was by far our player of the year last year under Rodgers he's bloody useless, the press conferences dare i say it are twice as bad as Kenny's, i'd rather listen to Kenny over reacting and attacking Geoff Shreeves than listen to Buck tell us how "fantastic" we were after we draw or lose games, it all stinks of deja vu under Buck and not Deja Vu back to the 80's either. Same Liverpool different manager.

Chelsea had to wait a season? Not with Mourinho, what are you talking about. That was the difference between Mourinho and the Italian manager, forgot his name.
