Just to clarify, I am a Rodgers fan. I do believe that if a top-drawer manager came along and suggested he would be interested, we should look at our current situation, but ultimately, I think Rodgers has done enough to justify another season in charge. I think he needs to get all of his signings to gel by January (including those signed in the summer) and have, at worst, closed the gap to the top 4 to a handful of points.

Just interested in how long you believe we should give Rodgers. Feel free to comment on why you voted as you did at the bottom of the page.
How long should Rodgers get before we next consider his future?

Good idea for poll - more informative than just either 'get rodgers out right now' or 'everyone that wants rodgers out is an idiot'. At least you're offering opinions within reason.

I am a believer that one season should be enough. Reasonable amount of transfer money spent with little effect, don't personally see much difference in game (apart from Suarez scoring) from last year and don't like most of his purchases. That is my personal opinion though, I wouldn't be protesting or chanting to get him out or anything if he does stay!

Thanks for the feedback. Similarly, if he were relieved of his duties in the summer, I wouldn't be overly disheartened. I do think he has done a lot more for the club long-term than has maybe been shown to the press, but I understand its a result based business, and at times his choices of players, his comments or tactics have directly influenced a poor performance.

The club has far wider problems than the manager. Unless mouhino or sir Alex ferguson offered their services it would be madness for more upheaval now. I voted for summer 2014.

The problem is FSG who need to take positive action to take the club forward.

Fully agree with that, I also voted for Summer 2014 also, as I think we can only then make a reasoned assessment of progress. However I agree the focus should be on FSG and not the manager as he has to perform within the parameters set and controlled by them. The continual focusing on the manager by some fans merely lets them off the hook. They've got to compete for quality players on the transfer market, otherwise no manager will take us forward. Making silk purses from sows ears is not a realistic or sustainable policy.

there is no manager in the world that can win us the league in the next 2 years.

even if mourinho wanted to come to us, which seeing as we have no money and no CL football and are hated by his beloved chelsea, is an impossibility.

so lets just see how things work out, we are playing good football which at times is frustrating but these things happen.

he needs more than a year, this "i want instant success" thing si boring.

stick with him.

Apologies for the long post....

I voted for beyond 2014, and I imagine I will be the only one! Of course this is all just my opinion, but I do think, eventually, BR will get the team competing for at least top 4. Personally I don’t think we will challenge for the title within the next 5 years, maybe longer, unless we get investment on City’s level. Now let’s say FSG did sell up to an Arab akin City’s owners and sacked BR this summer…yes we would have millions to spend and we could end up with 4 or 5 superstars. Do we really want to ‘buy’ a title? It’s a quick fix, but it will be far more satisfying to be challenging/ winning things by doing it the ‘proper’ way, and by that I mean, working within a reasonable budget, and improving a squad through effective training and good coaching. It annoys me so much looking at City/ Chelsea winning things every season just because their owners are willing to spend hundreds of millions on players and getting rid of managers every season because they didn't win anything.

I am most definitely not happy with our current situation, but I am content with the direction we are going. In 5 years, all this young, raw talent (Sterling, Suso etc.) will be quality players…with the right coaching. BR has a track record of working with younger players and greatly improving them in a lot of cases, so I think with FSG’s policies and BR’s methods, we have a good formula for future success, but only if BR is given the time and necessary funds to do that. Fergie has been in charge for 20+ years and it took him a while to assemble a world class side. Now he’s done that, he only needs to add a few quality players every season to refresh the squad and replace ageing players. That’s what we should be aiming for- consistent success.

That being said I think if we don’t get CL football next year, BR will be sacked. I wouldn't object too much, 2 years to challenge for top 4 is an entirely reasonable request, but would be disappointed if that’s how it ends up as I think he is capable of achieving that level, in time.

All just my opinions, I do like a good debate!

Sad but true Anne.

That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

I do agree to a point Anne, but the suggestion is that top quality players are all at premium prices compared to that of mid-table isn't quite so. Price is more down to the value to your team, against the value of others. If you are astute in the window, you can sign Michu's, Benteke's, Hangeland's, Vidal's, Schurrle's, Ozil's, Hernandez's and Cavani's before their prices rocket and their true potential is known to all. If you take the prices of all of their last transfers, it seems like pennies to their value now. Michu (£2m) Benteke (£7m) Hangeland (£3m) Vidal (£10m) Schurrle (£6.5m) Ozil (£13m) Hernandez (£8m) Cavani (£14m). Lots of these are strikers, but merely people off the top of my head. They all impressed to get their initial moves, its the task of other clubs to notice their potential. All you need, is a talented coach with a formula for success, an ability to develop talent, and a great scouting department. You don't need lots of money to get to the top of the league. Just ask our neighbours about transfer money and see what response you get...
