I dont agree with the article dunk. Its left wing claptrap. I lived through the 70's when the unions quite literally run the country. I can remember being short of food and the lights being switched off Maggie Thatcher started the revolution that changed that and thank god she did. As for the football connection thats interesting. Maggie Thatcher divides opinion there is no question ant minues slience at the ground will be met by shouting. But should the minutes silence not be allowed because of that. Is the issue with those doing the shouting? I speak for myself I really cant stand Tony Blair he lied and took us to an illegal war. But if I was asked to stand for a minutes silence for Tony Blair would I shout no I would not. I would respect the situation even though I cant stand the man. So should we be dictated to by the mob ?

Hillsborough was the police and we now know the facts of that case by the indepenant enquiry. I want justice for that and as a survivor would that justfy my behaving like a moron ? no it would not.

Thats the way I see it I expect muck to be poured over my head but so be it.

I heard a story about Margaret Thatcher. Some minister gave her a report which she rejected the poor guy whined but prime minister those are the facts. She ripped into him and said I have been elected to change the facts.

Contrast that to the pygmies now entrusted with our future Cameron, Milliband and Clegg.

I left England in the 70's because the unions had gone right over the top and were dragging the country down.I was working on the M53 freeway, and had been on strike for 5 weeks over a minor incident of a bloke refusing to lift scaffolding pipes cos he said the sun had made them too hot,and he didnt like wearing gloves to avoid the heat.He was sacked,so we went on strike to get him his job back, which many were against but majority rules.
While on strike and married with 2 young children, there was a 2 week shutdown at Stanlow Oil Refinery in Ellesmere Port, and the union said that any of us trtadesmen who could get onto the shutdown could go,and pay $10 a week into the M53 strikefund.
I was offered 2 weeks work at Stanlow, started at 7am Tuesday morning, and was on strike from that job at 10am,because the union wouldnt allow us to work during a light shower of rain that lasted about 15 mins, but then insisted we wait in the cabins for another 3 hours until the steelwork dried out.Stanlow said to get to work, union said no,and out the gate we went.I was probably one of a handful of welders in the UK,on strike from 2 jobs at the same time.
I emigrated to Australia.
The unions were totally irresponsible at that period in our history.
Maggie Thatcher was even more irresponsible in her time as PM.
Will I mourn her ----NO
Nor will I mourn the demise of the trade union movement

God help us if the union thugs of the 70's ever come back. I believe in unions but not like they were then. Some say Thatcher destroyed Liverpool I remember it was pretty much destroyed well before she came to power in 1979. How Fords Halewood kept going I will never know and the tales from the docks are legendary. That resulted in the inland distribution warehouse parks we see today they were a direct result of the unions which made dockland an impossible business.

But looks like she did more good than bad in UK as she never lost an election
