I guess the way I see it is this. I am not a scouser but I have followed Liverpool all my life since about 6 years of age and I am 55. It does not matter where you are from I spend a lot of time in Liverpool on non football matters and I can tell you not all acousers are mad keen football fans many have no interest in it whatsoever and yet someone from say Kent can be a fanatic not only paying the high prices but travelling thousands of miles a year. Who is to say they are less of a fan than someone who resides in Liverpool ? total nonsense. And what is Liverpool ? we are told only the Liverpool city council Bootle (scouse as they come) we are told is sefton. Where Stephen Gerrard comes from is in Knowsley to some these are not Liverpool. Madness. But where I would agree with cool and perhaps disagree with dunk is the money side of things. I would never say one fan is better than another because that is silly. In fact none of us are fans anymore we are CUSTOMERS. The club is a commercial business and clearly if we did not pay into that business the business would cease to exist. You can scream all you like at the TV wearing your counterfeit top but if every Liverpool follower was like that the club would cease to exist overnight. That is self evident. For myself I resent paying the amount I do and when I hang up my season ticket I will not be any less of a fan anymore than I am less of a customer of marks and spenser if I shop there less. But what I will be is not experiencing football such as I have done for most of my life I am sorry if it upsets some but watching on the TV or a computer screen is not the same. But we all adapt to our circumstances and no one has a right to watch LFC either you can afford it or you cant. I can't and last year paid for my ticket out of my savings for my pension and I cannot do that for much longer.
Matter of opinion, old bean. I don't go to many games anymore and the only thing I miss is the atmosphere - the actual viewing of the match and seeing what goes on is infinitely better on TV than being at any ground.
Back to the atmosphere though, even that is seriously on the decline generally speaking. Even when the ground is sold-out there is still quite often no atmosphere. This could be down to the emergence of a different type of fan, the quality of football, the expectations.....or something else - it's hard to put my finger on.
