had another look at that tackle. ya know what, while running out to get the ball, nani has a little glance, did he see the real player in his poriferal vision? video is up on sky sports. http://www1.skysports.com/watch/video/8542970/should-nani-have-been-sent-off?

Of course, the likelyhood is that it's a). It was really refreshing to see a match where the ref and the linesmen didn't show any sign of bias or being intimidated by particular managers, the home crowd etc., i.e. unlike in the premier league. The officials seemed to want to be very sure before making the big decisions. e.g. Rafael handball, Rafael dive, Wellbeck possisble penalty, Higuan goal. Each of these incidents gave the officials the opportunity to give marginal (some would say blatant) decisions favouring one side, but they didn't. Hence I think the decision against Nani wasn't a bad call against them, it was an honest judgement call by the officials who had only one look at the incident.

Good video that. Both pundits seem to have it totally wrong. The video clearly show Nani had two feet off the ground at the initial point of contct (hence not in control) with one foot studs up about 4ft high which he then pushed into the ribs/side of the opposing player. It may not have been intentional but you can see how/why the officials could have considered it reckless or dangerous.

I think he tried to control the ball and did not see arbeloa. If he glanced at arbeloa that is just a natural reaction to me. When someone pops out of nowhere then you will automatically look. Looks bad but if its not intentional then a yellow is enough.
