So sad that FSG seemingly are trying the cheap route instead of making a real challenge.

Come the summer I expect true signs of them gearing up a few classes and show their intent.

If they don't, then we know it's only money to them. That in turn will leave us with at best 1:st class youngish players on the up, and older players a bit from 1:st class.

Top 4 if that happens? Not in a Million years!

I think we'll get the stock standard 25 mil plus sales - if we can get rid of Carroll we should end up with between 45 / 50 mil to spend.

I think we can all agree that we can scrap any notion of a proper big money, 25 mil type player strolling through the Shankley gates - more likely to see two or three 10 / 12 mil players come in.
(Just because there's change, doesn't mean it'll be spent)

As for Suarez....

What a season he's having!?!?!?!
He has an engine and the skill to match - he's dragging us kicking and screaming towards the finish line almost single handedly, reminiscent of a certain Diego at Napoli / Argentina 86'

Don't get me wrong, not the same type of player, but the same all or nothing attitude - backed up with an enormous talent.
A bit more quality around him and who knows where we'd be...

Not bad when you consider last season some were saying he was poor as a striker probably me too always thought he was better as a support striker. Hw wrong I was.

And I was one of them too, and now he's proving me wrong, thankfully. My word how much better he's performing under Rodgers, and not just him, but most of Kenny's signings are also showing big improvement. All that taken together with the start made by Sturridge and Coutinho is solid grounds for optimism. If we can finish the season strongly to finish 5th or 6th and get funding from FSG to sign a couple or three top players we we should be definite top 4 contenders next season. I think we are most definitely turning a corner here and just need to add those couple of key players and we'll be there or there about.

Reina, Johnson, New Signing, Agger, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard,New Signing, Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge... Would not be a bad line up at all for next season, provided we get a good solid CB to replace Carra and more of a play maker in MF as i dont think Allen has it in him, Henderson can be useful as a utility player can use him at right back, on the wings or through the centre whilst Allen has 1 role only, for this reason i'd sell Allen and keep Hendo and Shelvey. Wouldn't be to bothered if Downing was sold but only if he was replaced, think Assaidi will be off to Ajax to.

I have to disagree with getting rid of players such as Allen or even downing. The squad is woefully thin at the moment and is one of the major reasons why the team has lacked consistency this season. Players quite often are not fresh enough or are not being pushed by a replacement waiting.
Allen has been in one of our top 5 performers this sseason, admittedly his run of 15-20 games was early on. He has shown enough to warrant another season. Downing is a top professional who at least would add experience, why sell him when finally he is producing regular decent performances.
This summer we will lose Carra, assaidi and probably Coates. We do not need another revolving door summer, stability is key to progress. Teams that don't fiddle too much tend to perform better than those who do. Everton, UTD for example.

Downing has become one of our better players. If we sold him, FSG would sign a youngster in his place so we'd lose out on experience, which is something that BR has mentioned. Mind you, the last time BR said we needed "men" he signed a tiny 20yr old brazillian paper weight 4 days later!!

To be fair that paper weight has got a goal and a couple of assists in 2 games. I think we need more paper weights.

On Downing, I agree, he has become much more solid. While not being flash, he seems settled and has much more confidence. I think it would be silly to sell him now.
