In those minutes for tha last meeting between Christian Purslow and the SOS, Christian Purslow was asked the question:
"The fans remain unconvinced about the new method of valuing our transfer budget by including wages and new contract deals within it – reports suggest that despite the two current sales that have gone through the Manager will not receive even the sale proceeds to reinvest in this transfer window – is it fair for us to assume that sale proceeds from the Summer transfer window, this and the future window will to some significant extent be used to reduce the Club’s borrowings? If not can we expect sale proceeds plus what you described as “the usual £20m” to be spent in the Summer?"
His reply was : "The reduction of debt does not affect player sales as there is a separate player account and money does not come from this for anything else."
To me, he has said there that players will not be sold to fund the debt. To be honest this might sound a little naive or gullable, but this is the word of the Temp Chief Exec, he knows whats going on, so really we only have this info to go on, and it sounds positive, and i would take from that, that no big stars including Torres, Reina and Gerrard would be sold to pay off debt. Personally, i will choose to listen to this guy than people on here or people in the street.
I really hope he is telling the truth when it comes to this issue. He has done numerous interviews were he has said that big name stars will not be sold to pay off the debt.
Absolutely agree with you. Unless CP is bare faced lying, IF we sold Torres that money would go into the "player account" CP talks about and would be available for player additions, NOT to pay off debt. I would imagine that when the yanks bought the club, a stipulation would have been that selling club assets, i.e players, could not be done to reduce or service the debt taken on by Hicks and Gillet. I'm no lawyer but I think it may well be illegal to do so in terms of the status of the club and is why CP is always saying that not only will the club not sell players to reduce debt, but they actually CAN'T sell players to reduce debt and the only place for sale funds to go is into the player account. Therefore I can't see the club accepting a £100m bid for Torres, unless Rafa actually thinks it will improve the team and I don't think he will do that.
