Interesting question, but who thinks that if John Barnes was playing in Europe around the time of 88-91, that he was good enough to win a bollon d'Or?

His rivals for it would have been Van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Franco Baresi and Frank Rijkaard.

My point is I think the Irish people could of chose a better role model to name an Airport after than George Best, maybe the same could be said of Liverpool with John Lennon to some, I suppose they tossed up between Georgie and Alex " Hurrican " Higgins, just my thoughts tho...

None of us are perfect. But I agree with you neither names are probably appropriate and I don't think they should be named after a person.

Your snide dig at the Irish did not go unnoticed

Luckily the Irish realise that their sporting heroes our human and just like the rest of us they make mistakes.

John Lennon was a musical genius who was also a regular heroine user.

George Best was a footballing genius who was cursed by alcoholism.

Genius comes with its own baggage, but with you being Mother Theresa and Ghandi's love child you wouldn't see that.
