For every Michu there are two Djembas!

Absolutely. The comparison is not a good one IMHO - for every 2 million pound signing who performs well, there's far more who never see the light of day.

Yet when we refuse to buckle - Dempsey, Sigurdsson for example - then the club get slaughtered. No win situation.

The Michu comparison is stupid. No one knew who he was and had we been linked with him we would all have been livid about it. He's doing well but once defences get used to him, then we'll see how good he is.

Sturridge isn't the marquee signing that we all wanted. But he will improve us as he better than what we currently have up top apart from Suarez. Lets get behind him and give him a chance.

The Michu comparison isn't stupid at all. It's our scouting network and analysis department that look stupid.

I'm not saying Sturridge won't make it, but for that price he's a gigantic gamble IMO.

A year ago Michu was banging in goals for Rayo Vallecano in La Liga (15 goals in 37 games). After last season it was a big surprise none of the big guns picked him up. Instead the mighty Swansea managed to land him. They also got Pablo Hernandez from Valencia (tricky winger who is a goal threat all the time). On top of those 2 Swansea also signed Chico Flores from Genoa. The combined transfer amount for them was a staggering £ 9,5M.

Here are a few other examples for you:

Wigan went out and bought themselves Arouna Koné from Sevilla for about £ 2,8M.

At the same time Norwich managed to snap up Javier Garrido from Lazio on loan.

QPR signed themselves Esteban Granero from Real Madrid for £ 3,6M.

Now ask yourself why are we always signing players for stupidly high amounts, and at the same time a lot smaller clubs with a lot less pull manage to sign gems for almost nothing.

It could be that we are constantly having bad luck, or it might be that we simply are too bad at scouting and negotiating.

We don't go for these types of player because us fans want marquee signings. I guarantee you if we were linked, it would have been full of "oh great, another £2m squad player" in here. And as others have said, for every £2m player that works out there are far more that don't.

I'm not saying that this is good business and Michu wasn't but I still don't think you can compare them. I just think that if Sturridge comes, like it or not, we need to back him and with our support hopefully he'll get us the goals we need. And sometimes a player will flourish at one particular team and not another. Remember when Mascherano couldn't get a game at West Ham?

The only thing which bothers me about the Sturridge deal is how can a club like ours afford to shell out on 12 million pound players and give them 100k a week wages, you don't really see Everton, Stoke or West Brom's of this world doing those sorts of deals. I just have a bad feeling all this spending beyond our means will come back to haunt us further down the line. I think Sturridge is decent myself, no way top draw but having said that he is deffo a Mercenery, you only have to look at how his career has mapped out to see that, he left city for money and was happy to stay on wages at Chelsea rather than challenge himself at another Club, he is only considering us because we pay stupid money like what we did for wages for Cole, Sahin and even Walcott of he comes, these players won't entertain our club otherwise...

I agree with you. It's just that our scouting and negotiating are so píss poor. If we in general were better in those departments, then I have no doubt we would be far better off. From time to time we would find a few Degens, Voronins, Hendersons, Downings and perhaps a few Carrolls. BUT swe would also find some Michus, Graneros, Matas, Walcotts and so on.

As it is now we seem to be very short of the latter types, whereas our bench is a bit too crowded by the former types.

Sturridge will of course get my full backing if/when he arrives (wonder how much that is worth to him! :D).

The perfect Christmas gift for LFC would be a brand new scouting and negotiating department. Maybe I would stretch it a bit further and include some analysis and strategic skills for them as well?! wink

thats why Chelsea want him off the wage bill and what's being touted, Walcott is also holding Arsenal to ransom by demanding 100k a week too, Arsenal won't break there wage structure tho...
