He is what we need but has he done enough to justify a long term 50,000 a week contract? Someone else suggested a contract where the wages rise every year so that in 3/4 years, he will be on 50,000 guaranteed and if he surpasses expectations then a new contract can be negotiated.

If he does go somewhere else at this point in his career, it will purely be for the money as he will not get the same opportunity at any other club that LFC has given him this season.

A 25,000-30,000 a week salary rising 5,000 in 2013/14 and again another 5,000 the year after that and so on should be more than sufficient for an 18 year old

When you consider what Joe Cole is taking home then, yes, he is worth 50k a week. Having said that, there is no evidence that is what he is after. Just the usual media mischief and rumour mongering.

It has got absolutely nothing to do with what players are 'worth' its what you have to pay to get/keep them.

Is Tevez worth £250K a week?

If we want to keep Sterling and someone else offers him 50k, we will have to match it, simple as that.

Obviously no player is worth even a fraction of what they are paid but he is being ill advised if he thinks he should only follow the money at this point in his career.

Also genuinely don't know, if he refuses to sign a new contract where do we stand with him? How long would be left on his academy contract?
