yep that's the way of it sadly. To be able to compete nowadays in all competitions, you need 2 very good players for each position - that's what the mancs have and chelsea are far behind them, you just have to see who's not been picked for a game on any given weekend, let alone who's on the bench to see how strong their squads are!!!
That's why Rafa is so good at what he does - we are fighting above our weights, giving the scum a real run for their money and we may even land that KO punch yet!!!

despite the fantastic result and the last couple of games for both clubs, you only have to look at the 2 benches when we played The Mancs the other week to see that squad-wise we're still way behind.

that's why i don't think we should be looking at selling anyone in the summer other than maybe Pennant and Voronin who clearly don't have a future.

DEPTH ...not just 2 world class CM !!!

We have Xabi and Masch ........and LUCAS with Spearing a great prospect but not ready yet , then there is Irwin and Plessis again good prospects but far to young !!!

Barry gives us so much depth in one player , he is a capable LB , LM ,CM ,CDM and gives us a more offense look @ home with him and Xabi !!

So please don't rip him , Rafa knows what hi is doing ...Selling an off form Alonso for a more versatile in form Barry made sense but now we can add Barry to our midfield without having to sell first !

Having a bench of with Barry on it is far better than Lucas as our only option !
And maybe it will spur Lucas on to take his game to a new level

would take slight issue with Plessis being called a 'great prospect' though. There's a reason Spearing and Aurelio have both jumped ahead of him for the central midfield spot, his attitude has absolutely stunk in the reserves since he played a few first team games, he doesn't look interested in the slightest. He should be gone ASAP.

One thing that we have also forgotten here is the "report" that Lucas apparently wants out. If he goes, then we just have Spearing as back up.........look out scum!

We need depth and we need back up and if you believe the reports, Rafa has money to burn without selling. Midfield of Barry, Masch, Alonso, Riera with Gerrard in the attacking role just off Torres and adding Kuyt to that.......I'd be happy with that!

add a Silva/Aguero kind of player to that to unlock the tight defences in the games where we don't need both Alonso and Mascherano and it looks about the best in the world!
