Spot on. And if you think keepers are over protected then think again. Those keepers use to pick the ball up 3 or 4 times after receiving the ball from their own defenders, now that's protection.

That doesn't mean they're not protected though, Snakeye. Any time a striker jumps up to challenge for the ball with a keeper, and there's any sort of physical contact, 9 times out of 10 there's a free out given. They're more protected now than ever.

They are overprotected in that area where the ball is there to be won but when they have the ball in their hands they shouldn't be touched (unless you're playing Fifa and you can't help but take out the goalie)

That rule should also make 'shielding that ball', a foul again then. Blocking an opponent from getting to the bal whilst making no attempt to play it has always been 'obstruction'. I have no idea when the rule changed but it gets on my t1ts!

Agreed! Should be Open Season on their ankles when they do that... wink

Yes I believe so because as soon as the ball leaves the keepers body its in play.

We are Liverpool FC. We do not need to resort to such unsporting behaviour.

No it still wouldn't have been allowed. Van Persie nicked it off Friedel years ago when the ball had totally left his hands and he was booked.

I wouldnt call it unsporting, it was funny. Agger and a few Anzhi players had a giggle. I think in the circumstances you had to try and so it wasn't allowed, made for entertaining watching. Nice to see Downing isnt the only one who's ok with his right foot.
