cant believe this a trophy unbelievable , yes Liverpool could win one of the domestic cups , but the squad is worse than last seasons dire squad , young kids still very much learning , i think as long as liverpool dont go down the team, manager and club can build in seasons to come instead of demanding trophies and top 8 finishes .

I would and I am sure Brendan Rodgers and Henry would be delighted.

there is no difference from finishing between 7th and 14th for me which is where we will most definately finish this season regardless, so why cant we have a trophy too, thats not too much to ask for this squad even though it is poor. We are playing Swansea in the next round of the capital one cup, we have home advantage so if Rogers takes it serious then we should get through, Everton, Spurs, City are already out, either Chelsea or United will go out next round as they are drawn against each other, why cant we go to the final again and maybe with a bit of luck win it, everyone seen the lift the club got last season winning it so why not again. Like I say any fan who does'nt want to win trophies cant be a proper Liverpool fan, they just cant be if they defend a manager who does'nt take them serious.

Why would the squad be worse than last year? We haven't lost any major players (except may be an old Bellamy who could not play 2 games on the go), BR spent some money to improve (not enough to my liking, but had nevertheless, a net spent of +20-25m) and our youth system produced some good talents to re-inforce the 1st team squad. It's not because you have very low expectations that everybody needs to do the same.

If you feel that we underperformed last year with a [oops] manager, now that we have a much better one, improving on last year should not be a huge problem.

the squad is worse as it wasnt great last season , gone bellamy , kuyt , carroll and adam, bombed out and rightly so henderson, downing and enrique , and the team is full of very young players learning , and a goalscoring is worse than last season because good player suarez is he is so wasteful and he was unbelievably wasteful against reading , and until rodgers is allowed to bring in the players he wants and requires to play the football he demands the team will not show it potential , but demanding cups and top 8 places is just wrong until the squad is massive improved and rodgers is backed .

As we have said many many times progressing in the league and winning a cup are not mutually exclusive.

Looks like you have double standards when you compare BR with other managers. Kuyt was already playing less and less last year, Caroll and Adam were shipped out by BR by choice as according to him he had better options, Bellamy could not play regularly last season, Suarez was as wasteful last year and even missed a number of games, Gerrard missed half of the season and was not completely fit until probably the Euros and we have some good young lads who stepped up. I am not expecting a top 4 finish, but, we should be able to improve over last year if BR is a better manager of course.

Did anyone actually read the original post? He asked what an acceptable place would be on January 1st, not the end of the season.

I think 8th place come January would be acceptable. Any lower would be disappointing, and any higher would be a bonus, at the moment.

Unfortunately, there will be no trophy for us while Brendan Rogers is manager, you will never win any cup competition if your manager refuses to take them seriosly and continualy plays weakend teams. The manager we have values finishing probably 8th ahead of Cup success which I think is very sad and unacceptable, whats even sadder is some Liverpool fans agree with this and defend him, they cant be true Liverpool fans, they just cant be, all Liverpool fans surely want success.

Firstly, we haven't played in the FA Cup yet, and we've only played one round in the League Cup (and won). We've played 2 league phase games in the Europa League - one had a young team (we won) and the other had a slightly stronger team (we lost).

We got to 2 cup finals with Kenny last season but Kenny had no European football to contend with, so had a significantly lesser amount of games to worry about.

It's been said from the start that the league is the priority for Rodgers - something Dalglish got criticised a lot for last season. Just because Rodgers has played young teams in the few cup games so far in the early stages, doesn't mean he's going to carry on doing it until we're eliminated from all of them. I'd also like to remind you that yesterday's League match featured Sterling, Suso and Wisdom - something we haven't seen for the first (or last!) time.

So I think you're reading way too much into things, and your 'announcement' to us that we won't be winning any cups is a bit premature to say the least.
