no lets keep it sensible shall we.

I can't see how your criteria would work for poles born in gernmany or the millions of germans living in poland. u wanna tell podolski or klose to go play for poland. or algerians born in france whose family were killed in the algerian revolution. Ur critieria would be impossible in the real world which is exactly why it is pure fantasy. good thing for mclean too, can't be much fun getting sectarian abuse whislt playing a game of footy.

and of course Northern Ireland have had plenty of english born players too. so u hate them also obviously.

I think this is no longer possible, we live in a world of globalisation where every country posses 60-70 different national groups who have migrated and live there at the same time. Players may choose the country where they are born in but when they hold a dual nationality based on their parents and the papers they possess then I think they have every right to choose which country they want to represent. Some players like playing at the highest level and sometimes t means turning their backs on the countries they were born which is perfectly fine.

!i didn't see a northern ireland team in the olympics though smithlee 2011. Yet we see a British football team. Which I am personally against ( mainly on the grounds of why fix something that works?... for a good number of years we have had england, wales, scotland and northern ireland for htat matter reaching the world cup finals stages).

I would say looking at my passport (I am English) that northern ireland shouldnt even have a football team! My passport says United kingdom of Great Britainn AND northern ireland. Which leads me to think that northen ireland is considered a principality in legal terms (I'm not going into my opinion on northern ireland vs Republic or ireland - I don't really have one)

Whilst I am trying to avoid a question of which I admit I know little about ( is northern ireland the same as Britain, or is northern ireland the same as scotland and wales, to put it differently) I think that there are numerous circumstances for many nations which need to be taken into account and its far too simplistic to have say, every player 'forced' to play for the country in which he was born.

Another thing I dont understand is how it works for the rugby team a team involving people from north and south. This leads me to think that the only reason it isnt implement in the football is because of the fans being too violent rather than an ideological or political reason or sporting reason. When you see the violence there on the telly its like northern ireland hasnt progressed since the 70s

McClean was born on the island of Ireland and naturally considers himself Irish.

He is recongised by nations throughout the world as an Irish citizen and he holds an Irish passport

He therefore decided to play for the Republic of Ireland.

What am I missing here?

So no one born outside the 6 counties has ever played for Northern Ireland?

Or is it one law for Northern Ireland and another law for evryone else.

You may want to corect yourself again.
