Downing could work out well as a LB particularly as he would be deployed more as a wing back. Stevie Warnock made the transition pretty successfully. I would hope that he is a back up option anyway unless he really shines there

His link up play with Sterling would be exciting, he is fairly nimble and can play quick one touch football from the back. He looked pretty good a few times last season when he started deep.

I see no reason why he can't play there. It's clear BR wants competition for places all over the park so this could be a good idea.

Perfect, then he could do his keepy uppy challenges when we have killed our games off. Heard he's a wizard in that department! whistle

i'd rather us just offload downing and cut our losses. he's a crap winger so why turn him into a crap left back? he's had a full season and shown no improvement at all. i would rather younger players come into the side and learn from their mistakes than have a player who has stopped progressing making mistakes.

i understand that rodgers may want some versatility but if there are better wingers in our youth team (raheem sterling) then surely theres a better left backs in jack robinson and possibly flanagan too

That's the difference though, Warnock was young and probably a lot more susceptible to change. Downing is approaching 30 and crap.
