for now Skirtel is week in the passing system, at WBA he didn't watch his back, and a very bad back-pass last night, he didn't even take a look

he is great when we don't have the ball, but a risk when we do have it.

i'm just saying he should be trained more under pressure, all the defenders do, forcing mistakes from the back will be the primary tactic for teams now

Fair call. He just has these minor lapses in concentration that he seems to be caught out on. But to be fair on the lad, he was good in defense, which made me realize that he just can't play with Carra, because I thought Coates was decent yesterday.

obviously the 2nd goal was a horrible mistake, that's not what concerns me, every player does things like that. gerrard set up henry twice, no? but what did concern me about skrtel was that there were a few of the 'old skrtel' moments a couple of times he got way too close to balotelli and got turned and just dragged him down. doesn't look that comfortable. this will be a big adjustment for him though, so we should give him some time and except there will be more scary moments from skrtel this season.

another problem with him is he runs on diesel, a slow starter early in the season, gets better with time

Once he gets used to the team and they gets used to him and each other, it will only be a matter of time before they start going in.

May be when he gets used to the team but for me, yesterday, he was our weakest link.

Criticism of Borini is harsh. We used to love Kuyt for his work ethic and this fella is like 'new-Kuyt'. He's quicker, more effective defensively and sprightly enough to get into good positions. With a little bit of luck he could have scored yesterday and set up two goals. I think he will come good. He's not world class. Far from it. But everyone needs a clone of Kuyt in the team when your chips are down!

And I would like to see Coates get a little credit on these forums too. Still a young player, and for me the future of our back line.

He is only 21. Admittedly he looks raw but i liked the way that he constantly makes runs and looks for space, plus his hassling of the City defense created a couple of good chances in the 2nd half yesterday. I think he'll be a good player for us.
