this is why I say stanley we no longer rival Manchester United, they blew us out of the water years ago and when you see deals like this taking place it just hammers home how far behind we slipped, we can never compete with them on that sort of level, never. I fully agree with you about living of our past name tho, this is the point I make about us no longer being a big Club in the sense of the word but we are a famous Club, there is a difference.

why dont you get a sponsor?
probably the same reason you do.

Completely agree with this. We're doing well to have such a lucrative sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered, considering our standing over the last few seasons. The fact that we've got a secondary sponsorship from Chevrolet is good news. There are a few other partners we've gained over the last year or two aswell. Jack Wolfskin springs to mind, and I remember another one being announced too. The more sponsors we gain, the more money comes into the club, which can only be a good thing.

If we can match success on the pitch, then it'll only help feed financial success further.

We shouldn't be comparing ourselves to Manchester United in any way at this moment in time. There's a gigantic gap both on and off the pitch between the two clubs at the moments. If we can close that gap on the pitch, then the gap will then close off the pitch too, but we certainly shouldn't be expecting to be on a par with them financially until we're anywhere close to them on the pitch.

bit of a catch 22 situation regarding bringing money in, we do need to be successful on the pitch in order to get the big money to come in off the pitch, but unfortunately the days of being successful on the pitch have well gone with no real hope of returning. I think the post above said we done well to get so much money of Standard Charter, I agree with this, lets be honest the only reason we got it was because of the fame we aquired 20 or 30 years ago and nothing about the Club nowadays and again if we are honest we know that sort of name we had can only last so long while people can remember it, there is a whole generation around now who have never seen Liverpool win a League and also have never known anything other than Manchester United being the biggest and best Club in the World, this is the sad thing about it.

So things can't change and we can't get back to where we were? Think of the success that Utd had before the 90's. Not a lot. Things go round in cycles so it is more than possible that we can get back there.

It's not always doom and gloom.

He's not the only one. It seems that every post lately is negative and running the club or owners or players down.

I think in days gone by there was always a chance you could compete again, unfortunately money has changed all that, years ago you had Forest winning the league the season after promotion, we had Watford finishing second early in the 80's we had Everton coming from nowhere under Howard Kendall dominating the League the season after a Liverpool team which was arguably the best in the world at the time back in 83/84. The point I am making is those sort of things would never happen in todays game because of the gap between the Clubs which has developed over the years due to money, we are at a stage now where big, old, traditional, fantastic Clubs Like Liverpool, Everton, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur will never win a League title again unless the football landscape changes which at the moment looks like it never will, this is what I am saying, I am not being negative of doom and gloom am just stating facts about what the money and rich owners have caused in the modern game.
