If I were a Celtic fan I wouldn't be laughing at any of this. Like the OP said, those two clubs absolutely need each other. Without 1/2 of the old firm, each of the 12 teams in the SPL will be facing lower gate receipts first of all. And television companies will pay less for rights to the games (I'm assuming the games are televised over there - at least in Scotland - because they're not over here). Then there's the fact that this has made the SPL even more of a joke than it already is. Just what exactly is the point if Celtic are going to win every year? I think eventually what little money there is in Scottish football is going to dry up and their league is going to be on par with the Welsh and Irish leagues.

So they should be allowed to get away with cheating.Just because it's one of the two big clubs. They didn't even pay the paper bill at the local newsagent. Before anybody jumps all over me I don't support Celtic either

it is terrible what's happened to rangers. but the thing i still can't get over is the way craig white brought the club, he brought the club with money the club would earn in the future, what?! the most ridiculous take over bid ever and it worked. hopefully the situations rangers and portsmouth find themselves in will make buying football clubs harder for these idiots who clearly haven't the capital to run the club. and yet as i understand it the 'fit and proper' test the governing bodies have put in place don't stop leverage buy-outs. which is shocking. hopefully they come back again.

I didn't say anything even remotely similar to that. What I said was, those Celtic fans that are gloating about this should think long and hard about what this means for their club before they go rubbing it in their neighbors' faces. The SPL was a second-rate league to begin with. This will only make things worse. That being said, you're absolutely right. Rangers dug their own grave and deserve everything that they're getting. I have no sympathy for them. I do have sympathy for the other Scottish clubs that, through no fault of their own, will be negatively impacted by all this.

Scottish football is well and truly [oops] now. I get Rangers needed to be punished but I think there was some spite in not letting them in the SPL. It just means Celtic will win by about 30 point every season until Rangers get back up there.

Don't follow Scottish football in the least but have been interested in the whole Rangers Newco saga. Personally I think Scottish football will be fine in the long run. Of course initially there will be a loss of revenue for all the clubs but in the end I think it will make the league better. Now is the time for them to concentrate on grassroots level more than ever and start producing the quality Scottish players again the likes of Hansen, Dalglish etc. The Scottish National team will benefit from this also.
