If they need a 'thinktank' to help them make decisions then they're in the wrong sport - that just tells us they don't know what they are doing and need help. Sadly, 'help' has arrived in the form some goons who think RM should be our 1st choice! I'm trying to be positive and i'm still delighted that they sacked comolli/dalglish but i can't see a lot to be positive about at the moment. They still want a DoF despite no english club ever being succesful with one.
Carhee, I am rather unclear about the DoF position as well. The manager dictates all tactics and strategy. If the manager decides he needs a certain type of player and identifies someone and the DoF then handles all negotiations and the related administration to bring that player into the club, then that is a good division of responsibilities. The manager keeps his focus on what he does best and the DoF likewise. Certainty the DoF can discuss and suggest players but he cannot dictate. The manager must have the last say on players. To allow the DoF control over players and transfers over the manager is foolish and a recipe for disaster. But I am sure FSG understands this and would set clear lines of responsibility. I feel if the two can work together and have a common goal, it could be very positive.
