I think most people will give him a degree of a chance but he will be on a knife edge to be honest as some will be waiting for one wrong move as an excuse to say I told you so. Cannot fault the guys work ethic or style of play. He works hard despite having little to work with by all accounts. I also give him some kudos for not turning over and having his belly tickled by the owners so to speak. Its clear that he has been offered the job but he is not happy about elements of control which to me is promising. Im finding myself resigning to the idea of him being here. He could yet shock everyone and become a success. This of coarse wont happen if fans start chants or boos before he has even started the job and I would implore all fans to offer support and maybe let the guy have at least a full season before chants come out, unless we are in a relagation dog fight come near the end of the season etc. Like I said he isnt my first choice but regardless of past (unless from Man Utd or Everton) I could not care less what the name of the manager is, we should judge them on what actually happens. If we as fans dont do this then he has no chance regardless of any talent for the job. I hope others are starting to accept this and do some soul searching cos I have seen many many twitter messages from so called fans advising how they will no longer watch or follow liverpool/football if he becomes boss. No matter who is boss that sentance should never come out of a liverpool "fans" mouth or keyboard.

i dont want him.
if he is appointed i wont like it.
. why seriously why ? because martinez has accomplished f*ck all as a manager. why do people want us to just roll the dice on martinez is the bigger question? i can't stress this enough. we have to get it right this time. if we fall even farther behind the other clubs we can kiss CL goodbye for many years to come. we aren't fulham, or west brom or aston villa. we can't just take a gamble on an unproven manager and see how it turns out. rant over. but if he DOES get the job and if he DOES do well then i'll gladly eat my own words.

he accomplishments at swansea and wigan are very much appreciated. he beat man u,arsenal, liverpool, newastle with wigan, all in a matter of weeks and playing unreal football. fergie was blown away by a team not worth one of his players totally outplaying them, they then went to the emirates and passed arsenal off the pitch. its the style - he's got it.

soon as they got rid of kd they were forced to roll the dice, martinez seems intelligent enough, and have to start somewhere. I'd prefer a young enthusiastic manager to an old fàrt like RH. The only thing i'd qestion on him is does he have the charisma and the clout for a 'big team'. Otherwise i don't have a problem with it. I would still prefer rodgers personally.. Martinez would be my 5th choice behind the dutch fella, KD (3rd coming), Rafa, Brendan Rogers... But i have to say we are not destined for relegation because martinez didnt win the champions league with wigan. I just find fsg seem to be very knee jerk reaction seeing as they said they were going to listen to fans etc etc

If Martinez is the new Liverpool Manager I will support him. He is far more media savvy than our last six managers and has some interesting ideas. I personally would not swap a single Wigan player for any of our first 11 and I think we are more suited to 3-4-3 than Wigan. We must stand behind him. It's not his fault if he is chosen by others. This is the best moment of his life in professional management and it may never get better than this for him. Lets hope he excels. Lets wipe the slate clean. YES he isn't my preferred choice - but every manager has to come from a feeder club just like every good player at Everton ultimately goes to Man Utd or Man City.

who says martinez cant bring progress and i mention dalglish becaiuse he was the last appointment , just so sad that boo boys are out already . I'm not a "boo boy" I didnt want kenny sacked like the majority of you did. I will back Martinez 100% but it's a poor penny pinching move by FSG who in their words can "match anyone financially" FSG are a joke

Haha agreed they admitted they knew little about football only last year so either they have clueless people advising them or they are going for the cheap option neither of which are good signs

Will people really be calling for Benitez if Martinez has 10 points from his first 4 games of the season (W3 D1)?
Will Martinez look the smart choice if he has half as many points (W1 D2 L1)? Depends on the football we play and the opposition we faced, yes?
See, people can do what they like in the stands - it's up to the manager and the players to produce results. If the results come, the fans will have no choice but to recognise the merit in the appointment. If the results do not come, well, then the manager will have a hard time. But don't think the manager who takes this job isn't aware that the Liverpool job is a hostile one.
I think it is foolish to equate Martinez with Hodgson anyway. Hodgson wasn't the popular choice for manager. He then signed several players who were blatantly not LFC quality. He then allowed the Mascherano debacle to spill over into a player strike, and then played tactically inept football for 6 consecutive league games. To his credit he did just enough in Europe with the second string side to keep the wolf from the door against inferior opposition, and then somehow contrived to lose to Northampton with the same team, probably because he always seemed bemused when we didn't lose by half a dozen goals. Short version: he dug his own grave.
Martinez still has a clean slate. He's signed no one yet, and we've not had a pre-season to get a look at what tactics he may try. It's the LFC job, so the spade is in the ground waiting to start digging, but it's still in his hands whether to take it up or actually make something of the opportunity he's given. How about we all back off and see what happens rather than fuelling the flames that idiot mob SoS are trying to start?

Why is everyone so melodramatic? If Martinez (if he were hired) was awful - he'd be sacked at xmas. If he has a poor year - he'll be sacked next summer. It would ruin our season yes - but ruin the club forever? Hardly! Chelsea bounced back after AVB quickly - as did Sunderland (somewhat) after sacking their manager. Liverpool will survive and there is no end of the world rhetoric necessary in this discussion. But if we are to entertain the negative possibilities then we have to be fair and consider that he might be a breath of fresh air - say like Pardew at Newcastle. if he's sacked by xmas, that means we're in the bottom half of the table, and with very little chance of getting top 4 for another season. That's something we can't afford. We need top 4 this year. It's been too long without champions league football. Plus if that happens, it also means that we'll be back in exactly the same situation, but havign wasted an entire year. If we get top 4 next season RM will have performed a major miracle. If we assume he has a budget of £30m his target should be 6th. The manchesters will occupy 1st & 2nd leaving 2 positions up for grabs. Competing for those places will be spurs, chelsea, arsenal & newcastle so we'll have to outperform 3 of those 4, and i don't think £30m and RM will be anyhere near enough ammo. We should finsh above everton though and must strive to get back above newcastle. I'd settle for that.
