If by "bad for a while" you mean "unbeaten in 8 league games", then yeah, I agree. The only "bad" results we'd had by then were home draws with Swansea and Norwich, and that horrible loss at Spurs. Clubs don't win all their games, so the odd bad result can be taken because it happens to everyone, particularly a side in transition. The bad stuff only happened in February - on 31 December we were 2 points out of 4th, 4 clear of Newcastle in 7th, and by the end of Jan we were 5th though we had slipped to 4 back of 4th.

Yes, we should have been higher up the table, but that was based on our actual performances rather than an idea that Kenny wasn't good enough. In a period where we beat United in the FA Cup and lifted the Carling Cup, Kenny suddenly became this hopeless manager because we couldn't get results in the league? Pardon me if I don't buy into that. He's not getting the best out of this squad, I'll agree, but retaining him not being "best" for the club is not something I'm easily convinced of given the work he accomplished over the twelve months prior to our collapse.

How your making a case for Carragher playing instead of Skrtel is absolutely beyond me...

We have looked solid all year with Skrtel and Agger, whenever Carra has played we look like conceding a soft goal! I don't care what happened at Norwich, we were playing against Steve Morison who hasn't scored for 3 months!

The man is a legend, fair enough! However playing him against Drogba will be a huge mistake, mark my words!

any other manager would have been sacked by maybe november.

And why would you say that? On 29 November Liverpool had 23 points and was in 6th ahead of Arsenal on goal difference (having drawn with log leaders Man City in our previous league game), and 3 back of Newcastle in 4th (who we had yet to play). We were still in the Carling Cup having just beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (for the second time in a week). Hard to sack a manager at that point.

Things only turned bad for Liverpool after beating Newcastle in the last fixture of the calendar year (where have I heard that before - oh yes, 08/09), and we couldn't win much of anything other than cup games until recently. Kenny should either have gone after the Arsenal game (if 4th was THAT critical, given that we'd lifted a cup the week before and were still in the FA Cup), or after Newcastle when the team looked totally out of control - Carroll's antics, Reina's red card and more. Since FSG took neither opportunity, sacking Commolli instead, there really isn't any point in people continuing to chant "Kenny out".

And there's no point in defending a manager who has given us worst league campaign for 50 years but people still do it.

Who's defending Kenny over League form?

It's the fault of the whole squad and management. Not just Kenny. Secondly, some of these players were here under Rafa and Roy and they didn't exactly perform to the maximum either. For a while they did under Rafa, when we still had 4-5 world class players, however, towards the end of Rafa it turned into this, dire performances, poor tactics.

So for me, a lot of it rests on the players backs. They go out and play the football, not Kenny. Kenny picks the team and sets it up, its the team performance last night that has [oops] everyone of, even those at Anfield.

These players (even the ones picked last night) are better than this. It's unacceptable that they keep thinking its OK to perform like this, and yes some of that rests on Kenny.

Kenny warned the players after the Bolton away game months ago, yet we've seen that performance 3-4 times again....and last nights interview was more of the same "poor attitude etc etc"

Will these handful of players still be here next year?

I seem to recall saying "I won't defend Dalglish because our league form has been poor" (or something to that effect). In this case however I am arguing that until the end of January there was absolutely no reason to sack Dalglish whatsoever (and even then it was only the February games that killed our league campaign) - which is in direct opposition to what has been said in the latter part of this thread.

I'm not attached to Dalglish staying or going. Unlike some I understand the reasons for him staying until the end of the season, and suspect there is a chance that those reasons could be seen to be strong enough by FSG to retain him for another season should we lift the FA Cup.

So given that he's not going anywhere until the season is over, perhaps we should support our team with greater fervour than we try to drag it down?

winning cups is nice but winning leagues and qualifying for the champions league will help keep our wonderful club alive for years and years to come.

END OF
