he has many things that go into being a very good manager. tactically he is always thinking, but occasionally he thinks too much (i.e last night against chelsea) he demands excellence from his players, but because of this certain players play far too much. and he doesn't have the mental strength to be a top manager. i personally wouldn't want him at LFC.

Could he be an option for us?

More importantly this is his first real disappointing season as manager

Will be interesting to see how he comes back from this.

imho, La Liga is not at all like the EPL and he may well be off the mark

Against Chelsea when Barca needed someone to create he took off Fabregas who was creating for Keito who doesn't create! Strange decision I think!

He has a sensational side and has certainly done well with them but is it him or simply the players??

And then to show no loyalty to his club and walk away, leaving them in disarray. Still "greatest manager"? Greatest opportunist, perhaps. A great manager is able to build a side and make it great. Mourinho is mainly good at making an established side capable of one last hurrah.

Two different skill sets though isn't it? You bring in Mourninho to make you great within a couple of years, and he does that better than anybody. Perhaps he's not the best long term, but then it's hard to tell, he's not really stayed anywhere that long. I'd prefer that over the opposite, i.e. managers who talk bout 5 or 10 year plans. We've seen that with most of our recent managers, and at the end of the 5 years, it's another 5 years being asked for.

I'd prefer the 3rd type of manager. The one who comes in, makes something happen within a reasonable length of time, provides improvement season-by-season, and then remains loyal to the club.

If any of those (other than Fergie) actually exist, please do be sure to let us know!

One defeat and everybody is writing him off it seems. He may have the best players in the world at his disposal but he still has to work his arse off to get them working for him and gelling to be this machine of a team. I don't recall Barca were that scary to face before his era, infact we defeated them not so long ago. Guardiola has elevated Barca to a level that no team can accomplish and for that I would be a fool not to take him as a manager if the opportunity comes.

Has to be both, surely?

Barca are certainly reaping the benefits of a once-in-a-lifetime output of Academy products. The fact that the careers of Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Puyol, Pedro, Pique, Fabregas, and Valdes coincide is more or less a miracle. It happens once in a generation, at best.

But I don't think anyone should take credit from Pep. Before he took over, they were a great side, but he imposed a clear tactical vision. And you have to say, his man-management skills (apart from this year with Pique - no one really knows what's going on there) are top-notch.

My only criticism of Pep is that he seems to be suited for only one job, and that's Barca. I can't see him going anywhere else, much less having the same success, as much as I would love to see him at LFC. For me, he is in a symbiotic relationship with Barca - both operate to benefit and enhance the other. I think, if he does leave Barca after this season, he will take a break from football.

I don't think I've seen a single post from anyone that suggests they want instant success. The majority would be probably be very happy with clear progress, which is something we aren't seeing.
