cant believe you dont realise that it was fenway who wanted benitez removed before taking over the club , as fenway had been in discussions for months before it was finalised , the next manager will be an appointment of there man not what the fans think they want .

i dont support rafa benitez f.c. i support liverpool football club and if benitez return i wil support thye club but what a big backwards move it would be a failed manager returning what a mistake it would be , and considering FSG wanted him removed in the first place i have faith to think they would make the right decision this time , with either giving dalglish longer or appointing the right coach with no sentiment or baggage .

Agreed,I am astounded by the amount of sensible people calling for his return,Kenny came in when Henry needed him,if he goes this summer we need somebody totally new so the players can all start on an even keel.

The players won't see what Rafa sees (at least not within the same time frame). Rafa saw that Carragher was past it, but Carragher disagreed. 18 months later it's very clear to all that he is past it, which suggests he's been past it for some time. Which makes Rafa's assessment correct even though there was squad dissent as a result of his (accurate) call. What if Rafa thinks Gerrard will only be of any use as RM in a 4-4-2? Gerrard apparently refuses to play there, believing he's a CM. What if Rafa were (once again) correct, but is forced to work against his captain? Would he give the armband to Lucas (a player Gerrard disliked, though he may have changed his opinion now)?

What about Bellamy, who Rafa has already sold once before?

Because if one takes a look at Rafa's previous spell (ignoring the press and the poor transfers under H&G's sell-to-buy policy) he was a lot more correct about things than not. He made Carragher an excellent CB. He made Reina the keeper he was (prior to Hodgson breaking him). He made Gerrard the player he was by first playing him on the right, and then playing him in the hole (neither of which is where Gerrard wants to play). He made Torres the striker he was, improving his ability to head the ball. He made Mascherano, Alonso, Arbeloa, Lucas... the list goes on. He made us a feared attacking unit by putting the pieces in the right place, and a strong defensive unit by using zonal marking. Questions can be asked about his use of Kuyt and Babel, who were strikers turned wide men that ultimately had not enough impact, but that may have been a problem with the transfer market and being forced to do what he could. He was right about the "facts". He was right about getting Dalglish, Borrel et al for the Academy. He was wrong about not healing the rifts with Pako and Alonso, but nobody's perfect, yeah? (It also takes 2 to tango)

I feel that Rafa can't come back while players he managed are in the squad, with the possible exception of Reina (who would probably welcome a return to "correct" keeper training). If he comes back early it will surely spell the end of their careers, and we all saw what happened at Chelsea as a result of just such change.

Agree with a lot, and am a massive rafa fan and think he gets far too much criticism, but even though I share your views, they are all based on assumptions ( the same ones I have made don't get me wrong) but they are still all based on assumptions. This leads me to think the arguments for Rafa returning are not based in enough fact for me to dismiss something which I see as obvious, we need someone knew, not something old. Moving forward as a club requires moving forward on to the next stage with something new.

To be fair though faz you don't want him back and have made that point numerous times and use Dalglish's second go as some sort of reason not to appoint Benitez.

So it's only natural for you to fight against it and use just about every reason NOT to appoint Benitez.

Gotta say though, do you honestly think the owners can't admit they didn't make mistakes? Can't they see the "mistakes" they are currently making now?

Surely you do what's best for the club, in any situation?

Obviously some fans don't want Benitez back, I get that. Some want him back just out of blind love for the man, I don't get that. BUT some would take him back, after really thinking about it and putting the conditioning aside. Can you not get that?

Like I say it'd be a crying shame if Rafa had to sell himself low to get into another club in the league, ESPECIALLY if our managers job is vacant. Putting aside all of the "Benitez baggage" from the last time he was here, you'd be an absolute fool to discredit this man AND NOT be willing to give him a second go.

Faz, this is coming from someone who was exactly like you only a few days ago, I wouldn't touch Rafa with a barge pole sort of attitude. I know where your coming from, I've been there. Once you "analyze" (as Rafa would say wink ) everything and look at it all with a clear point of view, you'll see that Rafa is just about as good as any option for our next manager.

Personally I don't get this "Well what about Bellamy, or Gerrard, or Carra" SO F*CKING WHAT! If they are so against other managers joining the club, then why aren't they going all out for Dalglish? Talk is cheap of the pitch, because on the pitch it looks as if they can't be bothered with Dalglish, either.

If they don't like it, they can lump it, especially Bellamy! If we start catering to players needs regarding managers, we might as well be called Chelsea 2.

If for some reason this whole Dalglish thing doesn't work (as much as we all want it to) and we are looking to bring in a new manager, then we have to look at the options on the plate.

Rafa is one of them.

Friends, I have to be honest, I think now is the time for some new blood to be infused into the club. Why get back on a merry go round you've already taken a ride on? Isn't that exactly what we're doing with Kenny Dalglish at this moment?

Would Brendan Rodgers or Martin O'Neill be given consideration?
