we are a big club in the history stakes, but then again so are the likes of Everton, Arsenal and Aston Villa even though I think we are bigger than all those. As for a big club overall I dont think we can claim we are, the things that make you big are wealth and recent success and I am afraid we have been overtaken in one or both of these things by clubs we were always ahead of. United ofcorse are bigger than us, eleven premier league titles and two Champions Leagues as well as being the richest club in the world, all since we last won the league in 1990. Teams like Chelsea are now ahead of us because of Roman Abramovic and also due to being able to offer a player obscene wages not to mention a chance to live and work in London which for an overseas player is still a big draw. Manchester City although like Chelsea have no real history have loads of money, for what they cant offer a player in history or medals they can more than make up and compensate in hard cash as Robinio is living proof of, there in no way in a million years Man City would of been able to attract him otherwise.Am afraid if a player like Messi became available tomorrow they are three clubs who will all be ahead of us in who he would sign for which is the way the game has changed and how far our fall from grace has affected us. Liverpool are still a big club but we are only big because of what we have done over 20 years ago, true big clubs maintain there success wether it's domesticaly or in europe, you never see the big clubs in each country going over 20 years to win there own domestic league like we have.
