There is no guarantee that a £20m player will be successful. And when it goes wrong the sell on value is awful. Not many players are bought for over £20m and then sold again for more. Buy a £20m player and be prepared to stick with them through thick and thin.

The problem with buying 4 x £5m players is that they are not as likely to get into the team immediately. It is 4 gambles really in the hope that one will really pay off. If you get half the money back on the other 3 well done but you will always be constantly rebuilding and cutting out dead wood.

Signing say Cahill, Sinclair, Hoilett and Rhodes would be getting 4 players each costing between £5m and £8m. All would be good for the next 5 years at least but how many would really make it? I mean it would surely be better than signing another 4 players in the Coates, Henderson, Downing and Adam bracket. I am probably being unfair to a couple of those but what is it you spend on a player that says you mean business? We have a £35m player that we put on the bench every week now.

Fast forward to the start of next season with a fully fit Lucas and Gerrard I would bet that another 2 £20m players are sat on the bench with him. And what does it say about the young players we already have? Are we going to see a plethora of talent slip away or go down the loaned out / free transfer route year after year?

If the likes of Sterling and Morgan are good enough they would be on the bench now as part of the rebuilding process. The way we are discussing bringing players in and throwing money around like confetti suggests to me that it will be another few years before the next big breakthrough player comes in and makes the position he plays in his own.

Haha that's true never thought of it like that and although we are not flying without him I feel we are doing better without him. When he is on form he is great and when he is not he is rubbish and it's almost 2 years since he was properly on form leave him at it best 50 mil every gained from a player sale!
