Can't see it. Over one game we might stand a chance, but over 2, they'll easily win.

I actually think the exact opposite. I think in a 1-off game away to them, they'd beat us, but over 2 legs we've proven to be a better side in recent years, especially with the 2nd leg at Anfield.

If we can get a draw away, or at worst a 1-goal defeat, then I fancy us to take it back to Anfield and turn them over. There will be an atmosphere similar to a European night, with high stakes. The crowd will get the players' adrenaline pumping.

Well after we played against City last time and gave a good account of ourselves and were unfortunate not to win, we had just beaten Chelsea twice too, we had a good record in raising our game against the bigger Clubs, then once we got beat by City the other night, a city side who were shattered after playing two days before it proved to me that we are not so invincible against the big boys afterall, the seeds of doubt set in, we are only a very ordinary side and we are playing the best side up to now in the country

Ha! Nobody said we were "invincible against the big boys", and tbh, anyone who thought that is mindnumbingly stupid.

This is a City side who thrashed Man Ure 6-1 a month or 2 ago. Their home form is second to none, so it was hardly surprising they beat us - albeit by a flattering scoreline. We didn't play that badly.

Also, they weren't 'shattered' as you put it. They have a big enough squad to deal with these schedules, and had rested their 2 best players (Aguero & Silva) for the game 2 days before, aswell as other changes.

Your logic is astounding, and you are probably the most depressingly pessimistic/grumpy person I've ever come across. Moan moan motherf*cking moan.

Like I have said many times on here I would rather look at putting the negatives part right than concentrating on the good parts as you learn more. If you took the trouble to read previous posts from people on here there were many who felt confident of beating the big Clubs than the lesser ones given the way we had played against them during the course of the season so what I have said is only the same as what many felt when we did come up against the big boys.

We have done well against the big teams this season, and faltered against some of the lesser ones. One result doesn't change that general assessment of our season's results though. We're not suddenly sh*t against the top sides because we lost one match, and just because we lost that match, doesn't mean we're now gonna lose the 2 semi finals as a result of that. Think.

We haven't done poorly against the top 5. But P6 W2 D2 L2 is hardly "invincible", especially since both draws were at Anfield.

I think something needs to remembered here. Games tend to be isolated, though a team on a long winning streak does gather momentum like no other. Two days prior to the game, Man City lost in a bad game that allowed United to draw level on points. Therefore they were fully motivated for our clash, and they simply took their chances better (much as we should have at Anfield).

The League Cup games are different though. City play United today, then us either side of a league game. With United slipping up against Blackburn, City will focus on the FA Cup and league games with greater intensity. I don't expect them to be poor in the League Cup games, but I expect them to not be at 100% intensity and possibly not with a 100% strong team. If we can nick a goal in an away draw and bring the experience of having played them 3 times already back to Anfield, (where each time we've controlled midfield and not them), I think we can drag ourselves across the line. It will be tough - but they won't be too worried about getting knocked out because they have bigger fish to fry.

Unless United manage to beat them today, of course, which changes everything.
