The Reds had already accepted a bid for the teenager, believed to have been in the region of £100,000, from Swansea City, while the Anfield club's cross-city rivals Everton are also thought to have indicated their interest.

A Statement from club chairman Gerard Lawler on the Cliftonville website indicated that the club are keen to prevent the transfer saga from dragging on into the new year.

"A number of other clubs have made their interest known to us and, as disappointed as we would be to lose a very talented player, we always maintained we would not stand in his way if such an opportunity came along," he said.

"As things stand, however, only Swansea have submitted a written offer - which we accepted on Tuesday - and I would like to once again place on record my thanks to their chairman, Huw Jenkins, for the respect he has shown Cliftonville Football Club throughout the entire process.

"It's important that the continued transfer speculation is not allowed to distract either the player or indeed his team-mates during what is shaping up to be a very busy festive schedule for us all," he added.

Ideally, we would request that any clubs who would like to follow up their inquiries with a firm offer do so no later than this Friday, December 23.

Donnelly and his representatives are expected to meet with clubs to discuss terms during the coming week.

Is it just me or has the transfer window not officially opened? How can Swansea a) make a formal offer, and b) have that offer accepted outside the window?

not 100% sure but i dont see why you couldnt bid and get it accepted before the window opens. the player will be transfed in the transfer window but all the other things could be sorted our before the window starts

Rory Donnelly would be a punt for the future, not what we really need or something that could solve our lack of striking power..

I am not so sure about that, i mean, none of us can know for sure until he plays, but the lad seems really good and he is in top form at the moment.

has to be worth a punt at 100,000. plenty of players have moved over from the irish leagues and done well and worst comes to worst we make a small profit more than likely

Sorry but he is 19, he has scored a handfull of goals in an easy league. We need a world class striker. Not to say he can't progress to be amazing but just not what we need right now.

P.S thats not to say we shouldn't buy him. We are clearly trying to build on our young talent and he would be a steal at that price. If he is on a parr with adam morgan then would be a good addition to our youth ranks.

neither bent, doyle or long are good enough for liverpool imo. they're all decent players but we need better than that. yes bent's got a good goalscoring record but i wouldn't want us to splash the cash on him and im sure he wouldn't come on the cheap. simply not worth it...
