I would regard Kenny as our greatest ever player, but that's mostly just from what few clips i've seen of him, and stuff i've heard about how great he was. I never actually got to see him play at the time. I only really caught the last few years of Barnes and Rushie's LFC careers.

So truly I could only pick based on who i've seen play season after season. The best player i've ever seen play for us would probably be Fowler or Gerrard.

Stevie has probably done more than Robbie, and has been at the club longer than Robbie was. As incredible as Stevie is and has been, Robbie really had that really special spark in him. He scored all type of goals, and his finishing and technique was just frightening at times. He's an Anfield legend, I can only imagine how much better he could've been had he taken care of himself more over the years.

that is right but it is what they win as well as there contribution to the well being of the club IE dalglish and souness were the catalyst to the clubs most successful era with at least twice in that time being arguably the best team in the world 1978/79 season and 1983/84 season , now ok gerrard is the best of his generation a true legend but he isnt and cant be more of an influance on the club than the likes of dalglish and souness because not only did they conquer europe 3 times they also conquered england and in the end that is what greatness is measured in , why is paisley great because of what he won why is shankly great and called the greatest liverpool manager because of what he won but also his massive influance in the well being of the club when bob won more , which make bill better than sir bob and it makes dalglish and souness better than gerrard or barnes or keegan so on and so on

By that logic Matt LeTissier must be one of the worst players the Premier League has ever seen.

Don't try and sway my point towards silliness. You're making out that trophies and medals make a player a great player. It's not that simple. You're looking at it in black and white. What if Gerrard was playing the the great teams of the 70s & 80s??

le tissier is a legend at southampton not liverpool and in your logic its only the modern day players who are the greatest , and gerrard isnt in that great team and even if he was i dont believe he would suppass dalglish or souness , yes he probably is an all round better player but he will never have the influance on the club like dalglish or souness did and greatness is measured in trophies thats why ,liverpool are a great and famous club because of the achivements of the club and look steven is a great liverpool player but so is keegan so is emlyn hughes so is phil thompson and so on and so on but dalglish and souness are just above those greats of liverpool f.c.

Again you are going on about trophys won but that has more to do with the rest of the players around them. Gerrard hasn't had the quality of players around him that Kenny or Souey did so it's difficult for him to win those trophies. Given that he hasn't had better players around him, then he has done well to win what he has and he has been influential in those games to achieve what he has. But as I say, it's not about the trophys a player has won!Unfortunately the wealth of some clubs has changed the game also because the money that is around now wasn't around back in the 70's and 80's.
I think managers can also be judged differently because at the end of the day, they are the ones who spend the money or build the tactics that team plays with so I think they should be judged on a different level.

If want to use trophies as a guide of a players ability and greatness, where do you rank Alan Shearer as a player? (obviously not a LFC player but used an example of a player who was sensational but rarely won any major TEAM honors)

shearer a league title winner as for liverpool take dalglish and souness out of those great teams would they had been as good , well just look at the 1984/85 team without souness good but not great with souness great 1983/84 without 1984/85 not so great .

The Gerrard/Souness debate is of course a matter of opinion, for me they are/where great players in their own right taking into account the different eras, however i feel the difference between the two is Souness was regarded as a hard man,one with an attitude you don't mess with, won balls with flair but also sheer aggressive force that was displayed with an air of arrogance,an arrogance that as we seen was carried into the dressing room as a manager that was to be his downfall, whilst Gerrard has flair and skill which is portrayed with quiet calm and grace a special Aura that not many players have. Its just my opinion of course! smile

I think thats a fair synopsis. Gerrard though has slightly more technical ability in my view and he also can inspire the team by his presence in a different but equally effective way as souness. Don't get me wrong Souness was a massive player and when he left the team suffered massively.
