Look I can never say who is the greatest ever. If you are talking who embodies LFC the greatest I would argue Dalgish. However I can not say he is the greatest ever, although we can compare Dalgish to greats of his era, so where would you put Dalgish overall in his era. these are the greatest because what they achived league titles european cups etc etc making liverpool the best team in the world especially in the 1983/84 season and possibly 1978/79 season as well thats why dalglish , souness and many more are the clubs greatest players

Winning all those trophies make them the most decorated players in Liverpool history, and therefore they embody the club more and are respected more because they vastly filled the liverpool trophy cabinent. Therefore I have respect for them more than many players that have played for Liverpool, however I cant take a claim to say someone is the greatest ever.

It is a tough call,it is also difficult to compare, would Gerrard have cut it in Soueys era? how many red cards would souey see it the modern game? Very good point. I am not anti souness by the way he was one of the greats. Just in my view Gerrard slightly had the edge. I also feel players from older eras we give them more credit they seem to gain a mythical status over time. VERY good point.

I don't care about era's and i don't think it's about medals and trophies because they are won by TEAMS not individuals. It's difficult to compare players from different era's and it always will be but I think the influence that Dalglish had on the games he played and his regular consistency over a period of time makes him the greatest Liverpool player. Souness and Gerrard would be on a par as far as I'm concerned. Barnes next because he had all the ability in the world but I don't think he was as consistent as the other three.
