39 games? are you for real??? and that saying about the best team doesn't always win the league is true now because leagues are won by squads these days!

39 games including the charity shield won or lost by the previous years league winners. I know people say its a squad game but am a traditionalist i dont believe in resting players unless they look knacked or they are injured. The waiter as well as other managers have now convinced players that they cant play two games in one week, they cant win league games on a Saturday if they have played away in Europe during the week, while away on International duty need to be rested on the saturday if they have traveled first class on a plane which has reclining beds having stayed in the best five star hotel in the country and also brought in the best chefs to prepare there food whilst being trained and looked after by the the best people. If players need to be rested why does Carragher and Gerrard play in every league game, Champions League game and F.A Cup game and how is Frank Lampard able to play i think it was 146 consecutive hgames for his club until illness forced him out. Squad games are a load of b0ll0cks these are fit young men in the peak of there fitness for there time of life they should be able to play every game unless injured or have lost there form but deffo not left out when fit and available to play.

i agree with you about the resting players - imo they are being trained badly hence they can't play two games in a week

as for the 39 games, you can't include the charity shield as only two teams play in it! we were talking about a league season anyway so the charity shield is irrelevant as a judge of ability

the reason i said squad is because the managers choose to utilise their squads during the course a season and of course injuries can mean changes ..... whether we like it or not it is the strength of the squad that decides a team's end of season position

See Torres need s 4 goals in the next 15 to break a long standing goal record for the club.
To reach 50 goals in the quickest time-what a legend

players play a quicker game these days and its also nearly full year around.back in the eighties the summer break was nearly 4months. likes of lampards and terry are exceptionally fit ,plus they tailor their games, whilst other players have to go flat out or they get dropped for someone who will.
yes the game is quicker but players bodies are different now so they can cope, they eat better train better and are physicaly stronger than they were 15 or so years ago. Players should be able to play 2 games in a week

i think you are both right and wrong - the problem in my view is the change in training - players are trained like sprinters these days - they are finely tuned to perform at peak level for 90 minutes and thats it ..... there is not enough endurance work anymore - especially in pre-season!

i would agree with you except that as soon as the players do have gaps in games the clubs will arrange friendly matches and the players still come in for training every day ..... imo if the players are showing signs of mental or physical tiredness then cut back on their training rather than mess about changing the team

Seems way off the pace to me...

Just been reading Ian Rush saying he think Torres has the ability to break his scoring records, he also says if he wants to be known as a Liverpool legend he has to win things. Rush says it's no uses Torres scoring 30 goals a season if at the end of the season he has'nt won anything, to be a legend you have to win the games biggest honours. This topic was mentioned a few weeks ago when people were saying Gerrard can still be world class even though he has only won one major honour, think Rushie who has won the lot, has put this topic to bed now once and for all, you need to win the biggest honours to be regarded the best.
