After watching our very own Luis Suarez rightly claim the headlines in getting his country to the final of The Copa America I was wondering wether this is a good or bad thing for us. The problem I see is if he continues to shine like he did last season for us and carries on doing the business for Uruguay it will only be a matter of time before a big Club comes in for him.
What I want to know is how long do you think we can keep hold of a player for me has become our best player, our most marketable assett and the jewel in our crown now, if as expected we dont qualify for the Champions league again.
Just one more thing, I hope fans dont start the usual stuff by saying stuff like he will stay for Kenny, he wants to be part of out History, he can see we are building for the future or all that general sentimental rubbish e.t.c. which simply does'nt wash with these modern day players which we found to our cost with Torres.
I personaly think he is using Liverpool as a stepping stone for a move to Spain in maybe two seasons time, where he will play for Madrid or Barca before returning home to Uruguay as hero to finish his playing days, especialy if he wins them this tournament, which by the way I have no problem with if he continues to do the business for us, dont think it will end like the Torres situation and all that bitterness, think fans will accept the inevitable alot better this time.

This is ridiculous! Suarez is a fan of Liverpool FC and it's history and that's why he's here. When we make the champions league, nay, win the league this season he will want to stay and win the champions league with us and if after that he wants to leave and we end up with 50M + for him too I'll respect that.

I don't think Suarez will be with Liverpool long term just a gut feel. He seems a decent man with the reaction from Ajax. But I think he is ambitious and if we get 2 /3 seasons that would be great. Hopefully by then we will have moved up a gear and it won't matter he has moved on.

Are you for real do you think any of these multi millionaire players are where they are because they are fans? Maybe a few like Jamie Carragher or Paul Scholes but even then they make sure the contract is right. The rest of them yes they say the right things coached by their agents but if you believe they are there for loyalty really you need to have a reality check big time.

As for the catch 22 there is not one or ever can be. Players must play to their maximum and let whatever happens thereafter take care of itself.

Let me play devils advocate here.

I also believe Suarez loves the club but for us to think he stay if Barc comes knocking is foolish.

Most South American players go to Spanish or Portuguese teams because of the close nature of the culture.

What British player in his prime who played abroad retried in that country.

maybe he'll sign for man utd or chelsea. At least we'll get to see him on match of the day then.

I think South American players do seem to favour or settle a bit better in Spain or Portugal. I think If we are playing Champions league football it may convince Suarez to stay a little longer but hand on heart how many people on here can honestly say they see Suarez staying here before going back to Uruguay to retire. I think Suarez would like to leave the game with a few of the games major domestic honours which his talent richly deserves and if we are really honest he has'nt a hope in hell's chance of winning a league or champions league in the next 3 or 4 years with us even if we did progress each season.
