I'm just like most of the Liverpool supporters out there. I would love immediate success, starting from this season. but while thinking about it today, I started to think about the future in say 5 Years time.
The future is looking very bright indeed. Imagine if (or when) the likes of Henderson, Spearing, Flanno, Robinson, Kelly, Wilson, Ayala and Carroll get to an experienced stage. They have shown huge skill and potential over one season, personally it excites me to see how good they are in 5.
My team in 5 years ( including a few young buyins):
Flanno--Kelly--Wilson--Robbo Albrighton--Hendo--Spearing--Sterling Morgan--Carroll
Bench: Suso, Coady, Silva, Ngoo, Wisdom, Ince, Shelvey, Insua and who else?
This is an idea, swap who you like, but if you go by potential, it looks really promising.

But is Sterling too small? It's all ifs and buts but the best thing is that we have potential which is something that has been lacking in any numbers since SG came along.

Well it's good to be optimistic, but I'll play devil's advocate.
Flanno could be average, he hasn't shown much more than decent in his appearances. Don't get me wrong, he didn't brilliantly for a youngster coming in last season, but he wouldn't be my first choice right back, Kelly looked the business, Flanno just looked ok.
Wilson has looked poor ever since he came here. Robinson looks to have more potential but that might never arrive, same goes for Henderson, Sterling, Albrighton and Morgan.
Spearin is not good enough, and I can imagine in 5 years Carroll will have some injury problems because he's overweight.
As for those on the bench, they're almost all hoepful at best.
I have the potential to win the lottery, but I wouldn't get carried away. The onyl youngster I've seen that's looked a bit special is Sterling. Not sure what games you were watching, but aside from 1 shaky game, I thought he was outstanding and really excelled. I'd still put Johnson or Kelly ahead of him yeah, so i wouldn't have him as first choice right back either, but I could see him as a permanent fixture in the side in years to come, if he continues to improve. I agree about Wilson, he hasn't impressed me in the slightest, from what i've seen of him. He's always looked over-awed and out of his depth, but hopefully he'll prove that wrong in the future. He definitely needs to go out on loan this season though, in my opinion. Your point about all those players possibly never reaching their potential is fair, and we've seen it happen so many times. But if even one or two reach their full potential we'll be doing well. They're not all automatically doomed to fail. Also, going back to the original post - if that team selection is going on potential, then I probably wouldn't have Suso and Shelvey on the bench :P

I disagree I didn't think Kelly looked any better than Flannagan last season They both looked like pretty decent players who I'm sure have big futures at the club but I didn't notice it when Flannagan replaced Kelly. If anything we were better as a team in the games where Flanagan played

Currently in 5 years time I see
new bought gk Kelly, wilson, wisdom, robinson (most likely a bought cb to replace one of the 2 mentioned above)
new rm, Henderson, shelvey, sterling
Carroll and new forward
Bench would have the other cb of wilson/wisdom, morgan, coady, flanno, and 3 new players or new youth player in mix
Upcoming world class players IMO for 2014 WORLD CUP: K-P Boateng, Gotze, Sturridge, Kroos, Lucas Leiva, Hummels, Kyriakos Papadopoulos,

Btw kelly is miles better than Flanno, kelly has the pace and strenght to recover when a player skins him whereas with flanno if a player goes past him he takes him out of never catches up.
Out of the two flanno wins more tackles but tasked with winning the ball which is the main stat kelly wins it comprehensibly.
Saying that though Robinson may not be as fast or strong as Kelly but he's the best full back we have at the moment bar Johnson. He doesn't have the body to become a world class lb e.g evra, cole, but his brain makes up for it so much so I believe he can become as good as Capdevila who has the exact same physical style as him, basically very similar the Baines.

Unless we win a few title or cups in the next few years expect the main star players of today to move on ala Alonso or retire and not stay on and do a Zidane or Maldini, or go back to home town clubs e.g lucas

The lad's only 17! Were you fully grown/developed at 17?! I have really high hopes for him, and i really believe the sky's the limit for him.

There's so many exciting young players coming through, looking forward to seeing who makes the biggest impression this season! One of the players who excites me the most is Adam Morgan. We haven't had a proper striker come through and make it since brochure boy (some might argue Neil Mellor, but i wouldn't say he truly made it at LFC), and as a proper Scouser, if Morgan was to make the grade, he'd be idolised

some good youngsters coming through. flanno looks decent but again he did well for a young kid and hope he can continue to develop, if hes going to be 3rd choice in the hope johnsons and jelly share right back and we get a new left back with robbo covering then id let flanno on loan to a decent championship team like a blackpool or cardiff, it does wonders for their confidence.
