For me he doesnt even come close. I've been lucky enough to catch the tail end of the 70's and enjoyed our success in the 80's. He's behind in the pecking order which includes Souness, Beardsley and far to many to mention.

His main weakness for me is that he goes missing far to often in games and isnt a natural leader his tackling is also pretty poor. Dont get me wrong I like him and glad he's playing for us but there's been better players in my opinion.

Please feel free to share your thoughts.

i havent gone back and watched tapes of the 70's or 80's but i cant except that we have had 20/30 players better than gerrard its easy to say all these players from the 70's or 80's were better than gerrard because we were so much better back then. he may not be the best ever but he has to up there surely.

Gerrard is definitely top 5. In the last 10 years, he has been simply superb. And they is no denying that.

But i dont think he is our greatest player. That's Kenny Dalglish.

behind dalglish and souness with for me souey being the greatest captain and still the centre midfielder the clubs ever had , without souness dalglish and rush would not have been as good .

Have to agree with the general sentiment here: top 5, definitely behind Dalglish and Souness. Probably on a par with Rush, Barnes, Keegan et al.

He has been playing with many normal players surronding him yet he still shined and delivered his best for 10 years. To me, it is easy to pick someone from the 80s like Dalglish but our team back then can rival barcelona's team right now so it was much easier for them in my opinion. Gerrard has had to do it on his own most of his career except probably when Alonso and Masch were here helping him out in midfield. Gerrard gets the pick for me.

Yup emp, thats why I think Gerrard has done it the hard way, its very easy to pick Dalglish because he is our hero but to me Gerrard is as big a hero for this generation of fans.

i think its harder to shine when all is shining around you than it is to shine when all is not so shiny , IE dalglish and souness were a cut above the other greats IE hansen, rush, mc dermott kennedy(R) ETC in liverpool's great teams , gerrard is a liverpool legend and is up there but not above dalglish or souness .
