I don't have a problem with a player preferring a move to a club in his own country, unless that club is trying to shaft us in terms of his transfer fee. If a German club will pay 5.8 million and Ajax will give us Suarez reduced by 5m, then I'd take the 0.8m hit to ensure we get Suarez. But if they're only interested in giving 4m for Babel or we're in a position where we're bidding with other clubs just over money for Suarez then we must get as much money as we can out of Babel's sale. Depends on Ajax really. I can think of worse things than keeping Babel and not getting Suarez, and I can think of better ways of using 5.8m to bolster our actual weaknesses rather than pandering to this illusion that we only play 4-5-1 because we don't have depth at striker. Do you really think Suarez would not be just like Babel, Kuyt, Jovanovic, and the host of other strikers who have largely failed to adjust to playing out wide?
Also just because Suarez wants to come to the EPL dosen't necessarily mean he has his heart set on playing for LFC. If Chelsea came along with a competitive bid, would he necessarily choose us given how our stock has fallen?
Frankly I hope Suarez is a red herring to attract media interest and to prevent other clubs with greater wealth snapping up our winger, CB, and LB targets.
