Xabi's Mrs getting up the duff that's where it all went wrong! Rafa being totally unreasonable over him not playing the Inter game due to his Mrs going into labour. Rafa totally ruined his relationship with Alonso through this and Xabi lost all respect for Rafa. Then we're after Barry and all that crap. It was awful man management skills. Look at Kenny's reaction to Johnson missing the Manure game. He said Glen is not available as his wife has gone into labour and he quite rightly wants to be with her. Totally different way to handle a player. Rafa forgot he was handling a human being and not a robot. If we'd kept Alonso playing the ball from deep to Gerrard who was in turn feeding Torres we'd be a different team and have carried on what we did in 08/09 and would have one the league by now. We'd finished 2nd and it was time to kick on. Rafa ruined it for himself and the rest is history.

The rot set in last time King Kenny was in charge. He walked out (understandably IMHO), leaving an ageing squad already in decline. We've never been the same since and from that time, it's pretty much gone from bad to worse on and off the pitch, with occasional glimpses of what might have been.....

A nice easy solution but its b&llocks. Our troubles started way before then in the late 1980's then compounded in 1991 by the appointment of Moores who appointed g&h remember? The club has stood still for at least 20 years. Thats why we are where we are
Be very careful Stanley Park, making sense on here to some of these in not allowed. What you have just said on here is what I have tried to get across to some of these on here for ages, but they dont listen or want to wrap themselves in sentimental issues. The great Liverpool Football Club the one from the 60's, 70's and 80's is finished and will never come back, people just wont accept it. The demise never started in 2008 or 2009 it started at the end of Dalglish's rein, he started it and it was carried on with poor chairman in Noel White and David Moores, poor managers, poor players not fit to wear the famous shirt and a new breed of Supporter mostly from Out Of Town and Foreign who have'nt a clue about the Club's traditions or values,we stood still thinking the success we had would always be there, we let the grass grow under our feet instead of building from a position of strenghth, this is where it went wrong not a couple of years ago...

Reclaim agree with all you say apart from two things. One the OTT because my family are from cheshire and my dad and uncles all travelled into Anfield in the 1950's / 60's on the train. So they were always a wide supported club even in those days. The other thing is I think the rot started even earlier than 1991 its just that then it accelerated and started to become more visable to the fans. Peter Robinson was a great secertary but he failed to see what was coming in football in the 1990's. Moores heart was in the right place but unfortunetly clueless

When I say OOT fans am talking about when the matchday fan base changed from being predominantley local to predominantly OOT and foreign, thats when the identity went, same thing happend to United years before when there Manchester roots were swallowed up completely. The points I am making are where the Club has changed from fan's, Chairman, managers and players the things which made us great are unfortunately no longer there...

True reclaim but you can say that for all the top clubs Aresnal are a long way from the local boys who used to go to Highbury, Chelsea too with the shed boys where are they now? And I know quite a few Utd fans who are priced out. But these clubs are still up there so I think Liverpool is just down to poor management at the top

The rot set in when shankly took over liverpool. Before the 60s liverpool was a local team for local people. then shankley came in inviting out of towners, and ruined things by getting us into europe and winning the league If he had bossed huddersfield we would be an authentic team for local people no paddies no frogs no blacks! That is the logic of a certain poster's arguement!
