Another pointless thread. For years, Gerrard strapped this team on his back and won games single handedly. We never invested in more than one world class player at a time to complement him. It's sad that he had to play through the Hicks and Gillet days - as well as a string of poor managers. Hendo is fantastic but a completely different type of player - and with a far better supporting cast.
That is a load of rubbish.
Gerrard was supported with plenty of world class players.
Alonso, Mascherano are far better than any of our current midfielders. Torres would easily get in our front 3, Carra - vast improvement on any of VVD partners.
Reina in his prime just as good as Allison.
That's without mentioning he played with Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge.

Gerrard never had fullbacks as good as TAA and Robertson.
Gerrard never had the best CB in the world keeping things tight at the back.
Gerrard never had a team full of potential captains.

Masch wasn't around long enough to build a team around.
Alonso (like Gerrard) was class but too often had to play with inferior players.
Yes we had Torres and Suarez... but we also played so many important games with the likes of Cisse, Baros, Riera, Ngog, Morientes, and a slew of other players that were fairly average.
